View Full Version : The ads are the best bits
I love the new Citroen ad, the one with the dancing robot car. It's so good I nearly felt like buying the car... although I wouldn't, of course, because.... well, it's a Citroen. But the ad's excellent.
Is this a bloke thing?
Bella 29-11-2004, 04:20 PM oh, I saw that one yesterday dab for the first time and I agree with you, it is fab!!
Pandora 29-11-2004, 04:45 PM Its very good isnt it and mustve cost them a packet. One of my fave ads was the Peugeot advert where the Asian guy hammers his old car into the style of a Peugeot - even getting an elephant to sit on it, to give it the right shape ..... then the cruising to that fantastic piece of music, trying to look all cool :cool2: is just superb ....
Ceridwen 29-11-2004, 04:55 PM My fave ad was the one for the new VW Golf, where they show all the workers ageing and the car evolving. I LOVE that, and the music is great!!
dab, I love that advert as well! I also like the one (for Toyota I think?) where he guy's running after the car shouting "That's ma car! He's stolen ma car!" cos he wants people to think it's his
Oh, and another one (think it's Toyota again!) where the windowcleaners ladders fall and he's left hanging there and the woman shouts "Hold on!" and she gets into her car and moves it so he won't fall on it!
kittyxx 30-11-2004, 03:03 PM i love the 'incredible, edible, anchor spredable' adverts with the squeeky cows! Oh and ilove the diesel advert - well the song from it - 'hate something, change something' oh dear it's now in my head!!

Oh I love this advert too! Best car one at the mo :)
I also loved the Australia one - it was so stunning with all the different views to colours of a rainbow.
My memory is completey tosh so can't remember any of the other ones I like, but can say for sure that I DESPISE all of the insurance and claim adverts.
Coastie 30-11-2004, 04:45 PM I like the George Clooney Martini ad....can't think why though!

I love this ad too, my kids absolutely love it as well, they think its a transformer having a dance:laugh:
Bonsai 01-12-2004, 09:02 AM I like the George Clooney Martini ad....can't think why though!
I saw this for the 1st time yesterday. Phwoar, how gorgeous does he look in it
Coastie 01-12-2004, 09:52 AM I know....and I have to say they can keep the Martini....it's him I'd be dragging into the house! PHWOOOOOAR!
Does anyone have an insightful interpretation of the 3 adverts...the giant jelly fish.....the singing cherry and the dancing pandas....what are they all about!
has anyone noticed how the ads are always louder than the main tv programmes they are sandwiched in between. i tend to put ads on mute now unless it's something particularly interesting ie. if it's likely to be funny.
yeah, i've seen that dancing car, mute of course (looks a bit silly without the music)

I have just sat at the TV with mouth agog at these ad's. I've no idea what they are on about.
And the one with the little chinese girl and the singing cherry:huh:
But I must admit I like the music from the giant jelly fish one.
MariaRob 13-12-2004, 02:04 PM I detest the ad with the Chinese child doing No 2s (ad for air freshener). Its always shown when we are eating our dinner at around 7 pm - yuk!
As mentioned before the idiot with the man boobs for synthetic cheese sauce muck.
That ridiculous advert with the air freshener "puff". They all stand around acting so idiotically it's bound to be shown on Chris Tarrant in a couple of years time.
The D'saronto ad, with that arrogant woman demanding a D'saronto on the rocks without so much as a please.
That's all I can think of for now but I am sure you all have one or two more!!
Atomicglitter 14-12-2004, 12:43 AM Ummm.... how do you get a picture in your sigi?
Bella 14-12-2004, 02:33 PM Mmmmmm LOVE the Martini one! George, you are welcome anytime, anywhere, any place!!!
Don't think I have seen the cherry, jellyfish etc, so can't comment.
The adverts I really can't stand at the moment are the Cadbury's happiness ones. What on earth is all that about? It just looks really cheap and tacky. There is the one with the lioness under the bed  the garden party with the hyenas and then the mother in law one. They are just awful, I just don't get them!
And Noni, it really annoys me at the loudness of the adverts, Channel 4 is the worst. Why do they do that?!

No, Bella I don't know why they make them so loud. My mum says that when I was a baby, about the size of the one in your signature, I would be playing, minding my own business, when the adverts came on I would stop everything and watch the ads, then resume my play once they were over. She reckons it was because of how loud they were, and we are -ahem- talking about the 60s here
Nope, I can't stand the Cadbury's happiness ones either, probably because those animals look so freakily unnatural.
Going back to the 60s/70s : Is anyone here old enough to remember all those public information films - like 'This is Dave - he swims like a fish', and 'Charlie says (don't play with matches' or something like that)... There was also one about a man and his son going through the subway and coming home to lunch/tea/dinner in the suburbs, and the boy didn't want to eat his meat and potatoes?? I never worked out what that was about.
Andrea 15-12-2004, 11:47 AM I saw the George Clooney martini ad for the first time the other day and agree with you all phwoooaaaar.
Went to my local supermarket today and in the doorway they have a life size cardboard cutout of George Clooney advertising martini.
I'm gonna ask them if I can have it when they have finished with it and put George in my bedroom.

I was going to mention these adverts. I don't understand them and they are a complete embarassment to a huge well-known company like Cadburys. Utter garbage.

Hehe, i agree with all those. We have one of those air freshners that 'puffs' and i stood watching it in memory of the advert
Tigereye 15-12-2004, 03:30 PM EW, those happiness ones are very sinister or something - they make me uncomfortable.....wtf were cadbury thinking of? 'Your happiness loves cadbury'? It doesn't MEAN anything.........
I just love the advert for those Lindt chocolates. mmmmmmm. Makes me foam at the mouth it does. All that delicious chocolate just being poured about. Brilliant!
Bella 20-12-2004, 11:57 AM EW, those happiness ones are very sinister or something - they make me uncomfortable.....wtf were cadbury thinking of? 'Your happiness loves cadbury'? It doesn't MEAN anything.........
They are really scary aren't they? I have nightmares about them!!
Oh and Peej, have you tried Lindt chocolates, they are just devine!!! They really do taste as good as they look. Oh, I must buy some when I am at the supermarket this afternoon, just to add to my Christmas Chocolate collection!
Lindt make the BEST chocolate EVER, it's so nice!! (I'm hoping one of my mum's pupils gives her some for xmas!
I like Boots "Mix and Match 3 gifts for the price of two this christmas at Boots!" It's just her voice..
I like the KFC one "It's okay mum, must be terrible being married to a SLAP HEAD!!"
Critique 20-12-2004, 08:49 PM The "sad" thing about most of the adverts is that although you may be able to remember the advert you don't always remember what it was for!! Some I have sat through several times over and still don't remember what they were advertising.
There's one at the moment that doesn't grate on me like most of them - it's done like a love story with the music of "Clair de Lune" in the background. I think it's for perfume but again I can't remember which. I like it cos I like the music :)
What a lot of money these companies must waste on adverts that don't hit the spot.
Bonsai 21-12-2004, 08:57 AM Is it the Chanel advert Critique, the one with Nicole Kidman ?
I saw this advert in its entirety the other night. It lasts about 5 minutes and is classed as a film. Mr.B and i were gobsmaked, and remarked how much money they must have spent on an advert !!
The advert that used to have me screaching at the tv was the Brittax Water Filter Ad. That smarmy condesending cow, "thats MY lovely cup of tea". Ooooh got me mad everytime.
I saw the full version of that perfume advert with Nicole Kidman when I went to the cinema - it was so long. Apparently she got $1million for it.
MariaRob 21-12-2004, 12:06 PM I cannot stand the Kentucky chicken ad, do that unattractive family sitting there caterwauling whilst stuffing themselves make you want to go and buy a bargain bucket of chicken - er NO!

Yes, Bonsai, that's the one - made a special note of what it was all about next time I saw it.
Don't they all get on your nerves when they pop up in every commercial break though - they should be restricted to one showing per program - lol.

oOOH YES that one used to bug me too - and why did they pronounce it as in "Britta" when I always thought it should be pronounced as in "Brighter" - lol
And I hate the Kentucky Variety one - I thought that blond was a girl!!!
Critique 21-12-2004, 04:18 PM I cannot stand the Kentucky chicken ad, do that unattractive family sitting there caterwauling whilst stuffing themselves make you want to go and buy a bargain bucket of chicken - er NO!
Yeah they make me want a bucket
I postively loathe the commercial for the fajita's where she is on the phone and he is cooking and she starts slagging him of to her mate and then when he asks if she likes it she says "make me another and I'll tell you" I would shove the thing right up her nose first!!! :ranting:
The "Well, Injury Lawyers 4 You... what have you got to say for yourself?" fake trial ads.
What on earth do the makers of this nonsense think we'll say when we see it?
"Oh, they passed that trial well. Must be honest. Let's go and appoint them."
Yeah, right. I hate that ad! Grrr!
Critique 21-12-2004, 10:01 PM I postively loathe the commercial for the fajita's where she is on the phone and he is cooking and she starts slagging him of to her mate and then when he asks if she likes it she says "make me another and I'll tell you" I would shove the thing right up her nose first!!! :ranting:
Oooh yea, that one too - when she puts on that silly voice to her friend "did you get that - a mix of herbth and spitheth" Grrrrr! She reminds me of Karen McDonald in Coronation Street - not looks so much as type.
MariaRob 22-12-2004, 11:37 AM Another ad which is getting on my wick because its being shown ALL the time is the one for Ernest Jones, where the couple sit there with fake snow coming down, she has a wierd hairstyle and he says he is nervous, probably becasue they are a cheapskate jewellers and he hasn't even bothed to wrap it - her reply is snogging him. It just annoys me for no particular reason!

Me too, the girl is just so smug, I would happily ram the fajita down her throat, no probs!! The guy in that advert is the "hunk"(lol) on Footballer's Wives, whose name escapes me at the moment........
The other one I hate is the Splenda advert, oh that woman is just so condescending, gapping on about her gingerbread men and that it is not sugar, in her suger bowl. Just p*ss off, why don't you?
