View Full Version : Second Life
Haydon 13-06-2006, 03:08 PM Have any of you heard of this? It's not really a game as such, but more of a 3d chat world.
I'm pretty addicted at the moment and I've put together a web page providing some more info. It's a bit of a Second Life review (http://www.survivor-online.co.uk/second-life/second-life.php). I thought it might be a good idea if we set up our own little area so we can meet up and chat. I hope to see some of you in the next life! :)
Coastie 13-06-2006, 03:22 PM  I can't play....ruddy blockages :mad2:
Haydon 13-06-2006, 03:23 PM Get a pc at home!
Coastie 13-06-2006, 03:35 PM I have one...I just can't afford to get a telephone line extension to my room and then to pay the monthly bill!
Unless of course I sacrifice some of my holiday fund which I;'m afraid just isn't going to happen...besides I would never leave my room if I got internet at home :cold:
Haydon 13-06-2006, 09:33 PM oh. Well unfortunately I can't help you with that. I think you've got your priorities wrong though. Don't buy any food, still go on holiday, but get your own net connection!
So are any of you lot going to join me in my Second Life??
Fee For All 13-06-2006, 10:23 PM I will, but it'll be at the weekend if it's as complicated as it looks
Haydon 14-06-2006, 08:13 AM Yay! Well I expect I'll be there at some point over the weekend too. It is quite complicated to begin with, but, wow, it amazes me. Stick with it. If you get stuck just post here (if it takes off it will have it's own forum section) and I'll help you as much as possible.
I better have a tidy up of my little house, plus I need to get some furniture in so you will have somewhere to sit! Visitors... can't wait! :)
Anyone else?
Fee For All 18-06-2006, 10:06 PM Well, I've ventured in and it seems like fun.
If a bit adult in places :shocking:
Haydon 19-06-2006, 02:35 PM It is great fun!
Adult in places?? That's what you get when you visit the strip clubs!
Did you visit my little house?
Fee For All 19-06-2006, 03:00 PM I sincerely hope it wasn't your house I visited :glare:
Haydon 19-06-2006, 05:20 PM noo, my house is safe! I've got an England flag on my beach out the front.
You'll have to come and visit soon. I want to see your Avatar.
Haydon 20-06-2006, 10:38 AM OK folks... watch this....

amazing huh?
Andrea 26-06-2006, 09:25 PM That's absolutely mad, Haydon.
Making money in a virtual world.
Well done to her though, for getting in there and doing it.
I'm off to see if I can make my fortune in this world!:w00t:
Andrea 26-06-2006, 10:11 PM I am now very confused:wacko:
I've logged in and got myself a name, but ended up in a room where everyone was changing their appearance, but I couldn't see myself or change myself either.
Also tried to find your place Haydon, but had no idea what I was doing.
But I also think my machine isn't good enough for this game as my mouse kept disappearing and blurring the page up.
Shame really cause it looks fun in there.
Haydon 27-06-2006, 08:26 AM It is fun! Please don't give up yet. I tell you ... this is the future of the internet.
You might just need to update the drivers for your graphics card. However, you do need a good graphics card for it to run properly.
Did you right click on yourself and then click "Appearance"?
Don't worry about not finding my house, it takes a few hours to get familar with things. Once you get more used to it then we can have a party at mine!
I'm now the proud owner of a store called Dress 2 Kill ! :)
Fee For All 27-06-2006, 08:35 AM :wallbash: I'm really busy for the next week, but I'll have to check that out!
Critique 27-06-2006, 09:21 AM OK folks... watch this....

amazing huh?
OMG, I find that really disturbing for some reason. It's scary. I know it's only a game but is it healthy? Creating a parallel life that can be everything you can't have in the real world. Isn't there a danger that it will take you over completely.
Maybe I'm just not getting it but it frightened me just looking at that movie clip.
Yeah, I know, it's only a game
Woodstock 29-06-2006, 11:39 PM ...pretty interesting. Food for much thought.
I could see myself conducting many if not all of my shopping duties using this method. That would take care of that.:eat:
It looks not too dissimilar to Vice City from Grand Theft Auto (a superb game and a virtual world by the way) and when i had that game installed i was completely hooked.
The technology we have now enables us to create whole new worlds and environments far removed from the days when Manic Miner was restricted to twenty levels and then he could clock off and go home. I remember when i was encapsulated inside the avian world of Chuckie Egg, and i thought "it couldn't get much better or more vast than this..."
How wrong i/we was/were...
These days anybody on this forum (should they ever wish to) could bump into me in a world known as Battlefield 2 online, and if you really hate me you can kill me with almost any weapon of your choice...or just blow me up...or run right over me (splat!) in the relative safety of a monsterous tank or blast me on the spot from high above inside the sardine tin-cockpit confines of a Cobra gunship...
That's the way it is nowadays...and it certainly beats the hell out of having to listen to the terrible, almost terri-fying screeching noises of a ZX Spectrum...and it's that immediacy that makes these concocted cyber-worlds so much more access-friendly.
We're all becoming a bunch of lazy sods...but any other generation (in terms of technological eras) would have welcomed the technologies we are able to enjoy ourselves with open arms so they can just bog off ... (noo...just kidding patsy)
...never have i felt more like i may just be about to get run over by a tank than i do now, having said that. Well, at least it'll be quick and decisive and i can always respawn to cause fresh amounts of annoyance...
...you can't do that in the real world....but then again, how on earth would anybody know that?? (another topic entirely i think)
Groucho 19-07-2006, 11:44 PM Hmmm, seems to me like you need alot of spare time.
floopy 03-08-2006, 01:24 PM Haydon, you barred me from your house
Did you not like my giant purple gift?
Haydon 03-08-2006, 09:53 PM ??! I don't and haven't barred anyone bearing gifts. Why did you think you were barred?
floopy 03-08-2006, 10:49 PM cos every time I go anywhere near I get picked up by the scruff and dumped off the premises :evilmad:
Fee For All 05-08-2006, 12:06 AM ...it just so needed some pink leopard skin :)
floopy 05-08-2006, 07:45 AM is my giant purple ball still in the living room?
Fee For All 05-08-2006, 10:13 AM Yes. And if you sit on it, you get transported to H's boudoir.
Not that I make a habit of sitting on Haydon's balls, I hasten to add.
floopy 05-08-2006, 12:43 PM Blimey, my mind-reading ball actually works!! :pimp:
H, I think your bedroom needs work, it's a little bit uninspiring. Wanna pay me and Fee to decorate it for you?
Fee For All 05-08-2006, 12:53 PM Oooh yes please! I found a store giving away free S&M equipment :ninja:
