View Full Version : I'm Gutted.
bridge 02-07-2006, 09:01 AM For the first time in my life i actually watched a football match right through, i am gutted England went out, i shed a quiet tear, and the Argentina ref was crap, Rooney did not deserve to be sent off in my opinion , Ronaldo was provoking him.
It was awful seeing the players crying, i hope the Italian Stallions win now.

GOODBYE ENGLAND , WE ARE PROUD OF YOU
floopy 02-07-2006, 10:09 AM I thought England deserved to lose, and Rooney deserved to be sent off.
They've been nothing more than mediocre throughout the tournament, and although i really really really would have loved them to win, i really don't think they deserved to.
I'm supporting Germany now cos I've got them in the sweepstake and I get 22 quid payout if they do.

survivorfan 02-07-2006, 10:23 AM I didn't know much about Rooney before this tournament - now having seen him in action I'd say despite the odd flash of brilliance he's basically a blustering fool with the temperament of a six year old, a liability to the team and in my opinion shouldn't be playing for them.
If you can exploit him like Ronaldo did, I say good luck to you, that's the price we pay for having someone like that in our squad.

I've already expressed a similar opinion of Rooney in another thread, so won't go there agin. Yes, we could/should have beaten the Portuguese on the form they showed, but seriously folks. Did anyone really think England had a chance of winning the World Cup, blind patriotism aside?
And when are people going to take their flags down?
One good thing came of of this, though. Mr P bought 2 training tops in Lillywhites today for less than £12 the pair.
I'm supporting France from now on. No real reason. :whistling:
*sniggers*
Oh where did it all go wrong? Probably when Eriksson said "Yes Wayne, of course you can play". This guy, normally brilliant on the pitch, acted like nothing more than a playground thug yesterday and deserved everything he got.
Credit where it's due though, well done to England for getting this far, although they certainly did have to work their socks off to get there.

Seabreeze 02-07-2006, 03:27 PM Rooney did not deserve to be sent off in my opinion ,
Just because things weren`t going to plan he kicked another player in the balls. I think he could have just got a yellow card but then he proceeded to deliberetly push another player and all of this right in front of the ref. Yes he deserved to be sent off no matter how much he was being wound up by anyone else. He needs to mature and just walk away from these situations.

Hello Patsy,
Mr M today took the flag down off the car and the ball that was sitting on the car ariel. Having spent the weekend at the caravan drinking and soaking up the sun, I couldn't help but observe that the St Georges flag on Hexham Abbey was at half mast. A nice touch I thought.
Portugal's goalie was too good. A shame.
It is my humble opinion that a penalty shoot out is the most disappointing way to win a match.
It's a toss up now between supporting the Italian Stallions or the French.

Northern angel 02-07-2006, 06:22 PM I can't help but wonder why the the new kid on the block wasn't given a trial match, and had he been given the chance when we had so many accident prone players, whether the final outcome could have been any different. It seems a shame to have keen young blood sitting on the bench and not to give him a chance.
Pardon me for posting folks, I do like footie.

...lying sod! :sly: (re: sentence two)
...re: sentence one...my theory (should United keep hold of Ronaldo) is, they'll both soon kiss and make up out of empathy for one another...as i imagine they'll both be kopping it together (ronaldo for his shinannigins and Rooney for messing up our fairytale adventure) when they both turn up at venues such as Stanmford Bridge...Anfield...The Emirates Stadium...Goodison...Reebok...City of Manchester Stadium...

ohh, it's known as 'a rush of the old adrenaline' (he's a silly boy!)...and some have control over it better than others, but unless you've played football at a certain standard (let's start with Sunday league) it's can be difficult to understand that these type of things can often happen on the spur of the moment.
I wouldn't say i've ever done anything similar on a football pitch myself, but i have been booked (once and only once) during a Sunday League match for...picking up the matchball and hurling it overarm right beyond the opposition goal from where i was stood on the half-way line...and right under the nose of the ref!
I did immediately question myself why on earth i would do such a bizarre and pointless thing, and that was before i received a 'lemon' from said ref...:bored:...incidentally i also scored 11 goals that season...:boxing: ...from left wing...:good:

Hello Woodstock,
I'm certain that's all in community spirit.
Geordies often get taken to be Welsh because of the old dialect, I know I have. Also working in Wales on numerous occasions has made me feel extremely welcome. A bit like home. Music speaks all languages.
In relation to footie a large number of the Welsh would have been behind England. Particularly in a mixed or border marriage situation.

Hello Maureen
I have to confess, i have never mistaken a geordie for a Welshman - i have however, on several occasions mistaken Welshmen for Hungarians...it's only when they are forced to utter an English word for every sixteen coded Welsh words that they reveal themselves as our good neighbours.
Don't wory Mo, i'm not Welshist...not at all, it's just a well-known fact that the northern region of this country (Wales) don't particularly like the 'Englanders' all that much. But, as long as we keep their castles and national parks well-maintained (tourism) then they are at least prepared to put up with us...
And as far as the football goes i couldn't give a hoot whether the Welsh, the Scots, the irish, or the Slovakians get behind us - they're all lying anyway as they enjoy watching us fail, and i wouldn't have it any other way! :eat:

Well said that frog! I knew someone would use the Rooney temperament to their advantage... although I still think Ronaldo is a T**ser after all Rooney is his team mate at Man U...(but then I always did thin of him that way...another arrogant over paid oik IMHO)...I reckon next season at Old Trafford will be a little interesting for him now...I mean it's not just Rooney who he plays with there...it's a few of the other England players who I have no doubt will have words about his sportsmanship! :boxing:
Seabreeze 03-07-2006, 06:22 AM It`s just been on the news now that Rooney had to be held back in the dressing room because he wanted to go and find Ronaldo. I would love to be a fly on the wall at Old Trafford when they all meet up next.

Hello Seabreeze,
This is definitely naughty but all footballers do a little of this?
In talking with some Australians recently I'm led to believe that dirty playing is part of there game.
Doesn't say much for sportsmanship.

Hello Bridge,
You know, I haven't a clue what this translates to - but I have sneaky feeling I've actually sang it, at a world music event.
'Myfanwy and Men of Harlech' for Wales.
'The flower of Scotland and A 100 pipers and more and more' for Scotland.
'The holy ground and Danny Boy' for Ireland.
'Jerusalem Coming home' and for England.
I've noticed foreign football teams supporters are very vocal at matches bringing with them there own percussion instruments. Does it help the game any?
