View Full Version : Beckham Resigns as England Captain
Patsy 02-07-2006, 01:10 PM So, did he jump before he was pushed? Lets face it, Sven was never going to leave him out of the squad. Now Sven's going and Beckham's position would not be assured, is it damage limitation for Becks?
I would also ask, if he weren't captain, would the WAGs' presence have been so prominent at this year's World Cup?
Who will be the next Captain?
Discuss. :)
Dolores 02-07-2006, 02:02 PM Steven Gerrard ... I don't know why i say that, other than my dad rates him very very highly and he knows his football!
Fee For All 02-07-2006, 02:18 PM I think Beckham Inc have turned the England team into a glamour machine.
Great media hype, full on celeb status, but sadly no real performance to support it. I think they should choose a captain whose 'partner' doesn't see the whole thing as a stepping stone for their own career

It just wouldn't happen in Real Life, would it?
Patsy 02-07-2006, 02:46 PM  Ineed not, Fee. I agree with Dol that it could be Gerrard, or possibly John Terry. I would err on the side of Gerrard, though, seeing as Captains are usually midfielders.

as well as a stepping stone, she does also use him as a ladder to be fair Fee...

:applause:...well done Becks - great decision!
...it can only be one from Stevie G...or J.T. (bet it'll be Gary N though) :bored:
Patsy 02-07-2006, 07:29 PM I thought fleetingly about Neville Neville's son Gary, but only fleetingly. Nice bloke, does the job, but I don't see him as England Captain.
Fee For All 02-07-2006, 07:31 PM ...as indeed does Becks.
I wonder what he's balancing on

:yahoo:..."WE ARE GOING HOME NOW! SAY WE ARE GOING HOME NOW! NA NA NA NA OOH! NA NAAAA...sh*t! what am i singing here??"
It must be John Terry... He's about the only player we have that can string two sentances together... defenders make goo captains, they can see everything in front of them and they can shout at everyone! Damn good player too... our best!
Seabreeze 05-07-2006, 04:54 AM Yes I must admit I think it will be John Terry as well. He has the maturity and he`s a good strong player.
Coastie 06-07-2006, 11:59 AM Gerrard!
Terry is good but he's a defender...I like my Captains to come from the mid-field where they can communicate with the whole field all the time as it were!
Shame about Becks though...he developed into a very good captain...still at least he's going to keep playing for England if he gets the call up! :yahoo:
bridge 06-07-2006, 04:38 PM Ok let me put my worthless football knowledge in.
What about Roon the Loon could'nt he be captain?:applause: ROONEY FOR CAPTAIN.:wink2:
