A work experience trip? The thought makes me shudder.

Nah it's a school music concert trip. Or is that just as bad?

Everyone I've spoken to who's been to Prague says it's fantastic. Mainly because it's incredibly cheap to eat and drink. Have a good time!

Prague is a beautiful place to visit but the weekends are now packed with hen and stag parties. Seems to be the "in" place to go at the moment because it`s so cheap to get there.

Prague has the second oldest University in the world and is a major centre of training for classical musicians. Leaving it at that before I'm accused of being a know it all. :wink2:

Enjoy your break and stag night.

Naughtyness, not that kind yet at any rate. Drunkeness yes because the beer is cheap. The police though have strict rules about being drunk in outside publc places, it is much preferred that you stay indoors.

Up at 6 for work as usual today.

Well, Lets just say it was both what I did and didn't expect.

Appartment was ideal (apart from the room getting turned over by some thieving scumbags who nicked my mates digicamera and mobile [thankfully I lost nothing]) Right on the main Wenceslas Square.

Beer was cheap. At one place we got 17 pints for £7 but never more that £20 - However I couldn't look another pint of Pilsner for a while now (on to Guiness for a while I think)

One pub we ended up in was a student type bar with sk8ter boys and demi-goths listening to old Drum & Bass - which was odd - Some of the olders members of the group just stayed out on the street taking in the smell of what they gathered to be herbal cigarettes

Entry to clubs was cheap (not those kinds - I'll get to that) Some of us ended up sweating a few hours away in a packed cheesy 80's/90's Disco which was a few of the best hours I've had in decades! All ages, all nationalities giving it their all in a club out of the 60's. There were stag groups, hen groups, couples, singles, straight, gay - Superb!!!!!!!!!!

Bit of sight-seeing around the Castle, the Cathedral, the Old Town, River trip, Jewish Quarter, Charles 4 Bridge etc

Great meal in an old brewery (I'll try and get the name for those thinking of going because it was superb and a must) Good mega-portions of traditional food. Have to say that the food is generally not very good so you should try this place out.

Yep, strip/table/lap dancing joints. Some better than others for various reasons depending on what you want (Out of the 17 of us we tended to split up at that point in the morning and compare notes later).

The major down point was the hassle you'd get on the street at all times of day and night trying to get you into their clubs/joints.

I put this down to the fact that Prague is now a bit passe and as a result there are not as many groups as there used to be so they are all fighting for fewer punters.

:applause: Great weekend, our guide was great, the best man couldn't have planned it better and get this

Flights with BA, accomodation, guide for weekend = £230
Whip for meals, drinks, excursions, etc - £100
Personal petty cash for fags, other drinks, gifts - £50 (excluding extras)

Sounds like a good time was had by all then apart from having a few items stolen. I think the hassle you get on the street these days is the same wherever you go now.

hahaha not exactly those sort of clubs but I meant any bars or clubs at holiday destinations or some city centers are always giving coupons for free drinks etc just to get you in the place. Usually they have male and females working the area and if it`s a group of lads the girl will go over and try to entice them in and vice versa.

let's hope so max - cos we're off there in Feb aren't we! yippee!

it's my friends 40th birthday and about 12 of us are going out for aweekend. The cost of the flights and a three star hotel is £130 - blooming good value, huh!

Very good report Slipper - top of the class for you lad! what was the name of the restaurant which you mentioned? maybe we'll give it a go! also the "discotequeth" if you can remember as that sounds like a good laugh.

The Disco (and I mean cheesy disco) was Lucerna Music Bar 80's Party (http://www.80party.cz/index.php?str=foto) theres also the Futurama which I believe has been refurbed but is a bit smaller.

This is the restaurant we went to http://www.restauraceuvejvodu.cz/?page=home&lang=EN but there are quite a few 'brewery' restaurants. There was another highly recommended called U Fleku but our guide said that the food at the one we went to was more 'country' and better value (it also stays open later). I can say that this was one of the few places we went which had more locals than tourists whereas I've heard bad reports on some of the others.

However I've just seen this as I was searching
"A few words of caution: drinks menus are cleared away around 11.30pm and at this point prices go up substantially. Ask to settle your bill once this happens, and if you want more drinks, check the price before you buy. Also, always check the bill thoroughly and let the waiters know if you don't agree with it.
Be careful and you will be fine, but these latter two issues cloud what is otherwise a very good all round pub restaurant."

Depending on how many of you are eating I strongly recommend

Starters
1) Toast "Flamendr" – savoury mix of pork and fresh hot peppers

2) Bouillon with meat, onion, garlic and egg

Main 'Traditional' dishes

1) "Old Bohemian pan for 2 persons" (pork tenderloin, breast of chicken, bacon) – baked with cream potatoes and cheese

2) Whole Roast Duck for 2 persons with pork and pork smoked meat, red and white cabbage, potatoes, bread and bacon dumplings)

3) Knee of pork baked with dark beer, mustard, horse-radish (be warned, you get no vegetables with this one)

I suggest you order a salad to go with the main course as they don't really DO vege's (But get one to share)

for dessert
There is only one thing TO have
Honey cake - it's to die for
