View Full Version : Fantasy Premier league ~ SO Premiership 06/07
Woodstock 10-07-2006, 12:54 AM I've just entered a fantasy team for the forthcoming Premiership season.
Some members of the forum participated in the SO World Cup fantasy league organized by Haydon - Patsy was the eventual winner with Mazwad finishing as runner-up, so well done to both!:good:
Here's another opportunity to enter a fantasy team for the Premiership campaign. It will prove to be much more arduous than the World Cup format so shrewdness, endurance, and in some instances extreme tolerance shall be the key requirements for successsful participation.
Or if you just wish to involve yourself in some harmless but cocky banter then that would be a good enough reason to take part also.
I've created a league especially for SO members. It will be known as 'SO Premiership 06/07' and to access our own little league you must enter the following code: 570-190
And here is the link for the Home page from which you shall be able to access registration: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/
You are required to select a squad of 15, with a budget of £100 million, and I shall post up further details in due course.
If you're not happy with your immediate squad you can alter it as many times as you wish right up until the opening weekend kick-off. After that time, the transfer rules will apply, but like i said i'll try my best to make everything as clear as i possibly can, though all the information you will need is accessible via the Home page.
It's free to enter but only one entry is permitted.
Good luck.
I've entered a team (Michaelsfield town- named after myself, Michael, and a dodgy pun on the name of a football team, Macclesfield Town) I should be in the SO league now. Can't wait for the new season to start now!!
Chicken Legs Goin' Down!! (All the best, just hope I finish above ya!)

Patsy 10-07-2006, 08:49 AM I'll have a think about this because I don't know if I've got the energy!
Go on! It'll be fun! Even if you just pick a starting 15 and leave them alone all season.
Patsy 10-07-2006, 01:55 PM I must say I'm jolly tempted.
Woodstock 10-07-2006, 03:49 PM ...Charlie's Chicken Legs are very slender so please no hard tackles! :surrender:
Charlie was an adorable fluffy little black and white (but cute) mongrel (imagine a border collie's features crossed with a very small poodle's - or even a sausage dog's - physique) dog of a very old friend when i was at school. When we all piled in his house at lunchbreaks (he lived just a stone's throw away) I'd normally be the first one that Charlie would pick on with regards what food (usually quarter of a cheese sandwich and a breakaway piece of a chocolate bar) he was going to enjoy eating while we all played our favourite records - Feargal Sharkey's 'You Little Thief' (wasn't mine! - just for the record), Run DMC's 'Walk This Way', Bon Jovi's 'Livin' On a Prayer' etc. etc.
Anyway, i loved him to bits, and i've been naming fantasy football teams in memory of the little blighter ever since he passed away many many years ago (late 80's)
I almost plumped for Woodstock's Wanderers but...nah! :bored:
And we need more entrants! Come on...last night when i entered i was approximately the 550th entrant in the entire country - i wanted to be the first but 550 sods got there before me!
There are somewhere in the region of 27,000 entrants at this moment, with registration just one day old...
Yeah, me and my brother signed up late last night and there were less than 2,000 then. Now it seems to be going up at about 2,000 an hour. Must've only started yesterday.
Glad you posted this actually, told a few people about it and it'll make the prem more fun if Chelsea run away with it again!
mazwad 10-07-2006, 04:07 PM I will have ago when I get a team sorted, that means after I have asked around the more knowledgable blokes at work.
Woodstock 10-07-2006, 04:46 PM Glad you posted this actually, told a few people about it and it'll make the prem more fun if Chelsea run away with it again!
...yeah, and that does remind me that i must pay more attention to Chelsea players this season...as much as it pains me!
Woodstock 10-07-2006, 04:55 PM As promised, i have acquired a bit more info - this particular post may help you to understand the point-scoring system. It's much like any other fantasy competition, but with the odd variations...(i've highlighted the elements which are of most significance for the purpose of 'at-a-glance-osity')
For playing in a game = 1 point
For playing at least 60 minutes in a game (includes playing points mentioned above) = 2 points
For each goal scored by your goalkeeper or defenders = 6 points
For each goal scored by your midfielders = 5 points
For each goal scored by your forwards = 4 points
For each goal assist = 3 points
For your goalkeeper / defender conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes) = 4 points
For your midfielder conceding 0 goals (must also play at least 60 minutes) = 1 point
For every 3 shot saves made by your goalkeeper = 1 point
For every penalty save = 5 points
For every penalty miss = -2 points
Bonus points for the best players in a match = 1-3 points
For every 2 goals conceded by your goalkeeper or defenders = -1 point
For every yellow card = -1 point
For every red card (includes any yellow card points) = -3 points
The following link will take you directly to the Help Categories page which is of immense help for those not accustomed to fantasy football...

Woodstock 10-07-2006, 05:08 PM A manager may enter one Fantasy Premier League squad, multiple squads will be deleted. Squads must consist of:
2 Goalkeepers
5 Defenders
5 Midfielders
3 Forwards You can select up to 3 players from any one team. If a player is transferred during the season and this transfer takes you over this limit, then you will need to go back under the limit when making your next transfers.
Each player has been given a value. The total value of your initial squad must not exceed £100 million.
How do I make more money for my team?
The only way to make more money is to buy players who you think will go up in value and then sell them at a profit. You can read more about this in the player values section of the rules.
You must nominate a member of your team to be captain. This player will score double the number of points he would usually have been awarded that Gameweek.
If your captain does not play then the bonus will be lost. Another player will not take over the captaincy in his place.
You can change your captain at the bottom of the 'My Team' page. Any changes you make to your captain will become active at the next deadline.
After selecting your squad you can still deal in the transfer market. Unlimited squad transfers can be made, 1 transfer can be made between each gameweek deadline without charge. Each additional transfer made in the same gameweek will deduct 4 points from your total at the next deadline. Free transfers are not carried over from week to week.
All transfers before the start of the season are made at no cost. For teams entering after the start of the season, no points will be deducted before their first deadline.
You can play 1 transfer wild card a season. When your transfer wild card is played, no points will be deducted for transfers that Gameweek. You play your wild card when confirming transfers.
Any transfers you make will become active at the next deadline.
Player prices vary during the season dependent on the popularity of the player in the transfer market. Player values will not change until the season starts.
If you sell a player for a higher price than you paid, then a sell-on fee of 50% (rounded up to the nearest 0.1 million) will be applied on the profits. For example, if you buy a player for 4.2 million and when you transfer him his value is 4.5 million then you will only receive 4.3 million.
Andrea 11-07-2006, 10:22 PM Nice one Woody:good:
I've just joined up!
Excellent Andrea :D Glad to hear it!
Hope your team is succesful! (but not a succesful as mine)
Anyone else stumbling across this thread, JOIN NOW or risk being murdered at midnight but a dark assassin!
Andrea 11-07-2006, 11:28 PM Oh no!:shocking:
Not a D.A. as well now!:shocking:
You're safe, you have a team...
But EVERYONE ELSE (excluding myself and woodstock) SIGN UP or be attacked by the D.A.! (And possible the P.R. and P.G.A. at the same time.... I dunno... I just want people to sign up that all....)
Woodstock 12-07-2006, 01:40 PM Well done Andrea - best of luck! :applause:
Our league is now three-strong and with over 87,000 national entries - even at this stage - i feel SO is well-represented...but not nearly as well-represented as it should be...
Come on Patsy, Tigereye, Mazwad...

...it's early days yet Flyo! :sunb:
What's the worst that can happen?...finishing 3rd??
Woodstock 12-07-2006, 04:59 PM Because no-one is remotely interested i thought it would be an excellent idea to allow whoever's not remotely interested to have a wee peek at my pre-season squad...
1. Brad Friedel (Blackburn)
2. David James (Man. City)
3. Lucas Neill (Blackburn)
4. Ryan Nelson (Blackburn)
5. Micah Richards (Man. City)
6. Sylvain Distin (Man. City)
7. Wayne Bridge (Fulham)
8. Aaron Lennon (Spurs)
9. Tomas Rosicky (Arsenal)
10. Steven Davis (Aston Villa)
11. Kieran Richardson (Man. United)
12. Pedro Mendes (Portsmouth)
13. Thierry Henry (Arsenal)
14. Craig Bellamy (Liverpool)
15. Dimitar Berbatov (Spurs)
I may make one or two little tweaks here and there before the serious business starts, but i reckon (but certainly no bragadoccio stuff from me this time around) that's a decent squad!
It took me a while to arrive at that final squad, as i kept on getting myself 0.5 million overspent :wallbash:...but i got there in the end!
Woodstock 17-07-2006, 06:58 PM If ye cannae be bo'rd with with this 'free to enter = crummy prize' competition (...and early indications suggest ye caanae), then might i suggest you have a bash at the Daily Telegraph's own fantasy football competition - the first prize is £50,000 so it's not to be sniffed at. Some of you probably earn that in a week but i've yet to earn that amount in total in all the jobs i've had put together...:bored:...so to me it is a bountiful prize, and i've been trying and trying in this particular competition for longer than i care to remember...
But i will win it one day...oh yes...i will win it one day...:eat:
