View Full Version : What's the last film you watched?
Bella 17-09-2005, 08:26 AM What was the film Patsy?!
Reminder to self while in Dublin - NEVER GET ON THE WRONG SIDE OF PATSY!!! :shocking: :shocking:
Patsy 17-09-2005, 08:46 AM It was Chicago, Bella! Do keep up dear.
Bella 17-09-2005, 09:28 AM Ooops! I have still to see Chicago, Mr B is out next Friday might get it out then but I also want to see Finding Neverland! Mmmm decisions, decisions!
bridge 17-09-2005, 04:04 PM the last film i watched was "Frida" , it's about the Mexican painter Frida Kohl's life, quite a bit of nudity :w00t: rather good.
Bella 17-09-2005, 07:55 PM We are just going to watch Hitch I'll let you know if I like it or not tomorrow! :wink_kiss
I watched Jersey Girl tonight - I've got all of Kevin Smith's other films but I'd heard that this one was different. Different yes - but I still enjoyed it - even with J Lo - although she does die in the first fifteen minutes!
Excellent performances throughout - especially George Carling - and Raquel Castro who played Ben Afflek's daughter.
:holiday:
Bella 18-09-2005, 08:48 AM If you haven't seen Hitch, get it out! It is brilliant! Will Smith is becoming one of my favourite actors. It was a good, easy and really funny film to watch, we really enjoyed it! :wink_kiss
Dolores 18-09-2005, 09:11 AM I love Will Smith in EVERYTHING, Bella ... except the Fresh Prince (that was just embarrassing, he was far to old to play that character!!)
Last night me and my son watched Disney's The Lion King ... I haven't seen this film for years and years, it was always my favourite film when he was little. It's lost none of its charm. A delight!
maxine 18-09-2005, 09:48 AM Yesterday I watched Troy, which tried very hard to be an epic but didn't quite make it. Although I did enjoy it. Then in the evening we watched The Beach, which was OK but nowhere near as good as the book, which I find is usually the way with books made into films.

I'm another fan - Dogma is one of the best films ever!
bridge 18-09-2005, 03:48 PM Yesterday I watched Troy, which tried very hard to be an epic but didn't quite make it.
I bought this film for my hubby last Christmas, it is still in the cellophane we still haven't got round to watching it yet!
Bella 18-09-2005, 06:17 PM I went to see Troy when it came and have also watched it at home on DVD, it does come across much better on the big screen but I thought Brad Pitt's acting was a bit wooden in it. Although his body and physique made up for it! :w00t: :naughty: And Eric Banna as Prince Hector was just the Bee's Knees! I still really enjoyed though! :)

Its worth it just for Brad in a skirt :naughty:
JakeyBoy 19-09-2005, 05:52 AM lol :kid:
Dolores 19-09-2005, 07:35 AM I watched Monster Ball last night and I was disappointed. It seemed like a really twee storyline. Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton were very good in it, but not exceptional by any means, imo.
I missed two pivotal scences just by turning round to pick up some clothes to iron, cos they went by in a flash, the scene where the boy gets knocked down and he scene where Billy Bob's son dies ... how did he die? There seemed to be no real dwelling on important aspects that made them into the people they were (Halle and Billy Bob), or what drew them together. I thought it was very flimsy. ..... and I stayed up til midnight to watch it too! and now Im very tired!:sleepy:
It did start off well in the prison though and I thought Heath Ledger (Billy Bob's son and and the bloke who played Musgrove (the prisoner who got excecuted) played blinders, but alas neither of them were in it for long enough!
I was disturbed to see Frank from Everyone Loves Raymond playing such a hateful character ... what would Marie have to say about that I wonder!!
Bella 19-09-2005, 08:16 AM Oh, I meant to watch this Dol and forgot all about it, maybe just as well! :w00t:
Dolores 19-09-2005, 05:53 PM Oh, I meant to watch this Dol and forgot all about it, maybe just as well! :w00t:
I think it was critically acclaimed Bella ... so don't just take my opinion! halle Berry won her oscar for it didn't she ... don't know what other leading actresses there were to chose from that year, so can't compare, anyway the Oscars aren't exactly an exact science are they!!! otherwise Russell Crowe would have won one for A Beautiful Mind and Tom Hanks wouldn't have won one for that utter trip Forest Gump ... talk about an over rated film! pah ... critics whadda they know!
Bella 19-09-2005, 06:08 PM otherwise Russell Crowe would have won one for A Beautiful Mind
Didn't he win an oscar for A Beautiful Mind, I know he won one for Gladiator.....oh, but didn't he also get one for The Insider......where is Coastie when you need her?
There are a few Oscar films that I have hated but as you point out Dol, the Oscars are not an exact science. I am still baffled as to why Dances with Wolves and that crap actor Kevin Costner won about a thousand Oscars! :shocking:
maxine 24-09-2005, 10:59 AM The last 2 films I've watched have been Muriel's Wedding, one of my all time faves and The Magnificent Seven which I thought was one of my faves but actually looks very dated and was quite boring, despite Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson and James Coburn.

As far as I know Russell Crowe has won one Oscar for Gladiator, but imo he deserved one for A Beautiful Mind more than Gladiator. I think he'd upset the "Academy" by his boorish behaviour and that was why they denied him the Oscar for ABM ... which also just goes to show that Oscars aren't really about the on screen performance which makes them quite worthless and "luvvie" imo!

Did yuo know that Steve McQueen only had four lines in that film! (one of my trivia facts i found out whilst researching whether Yul Bryner was dead or alive!).

You're spot on Dol, I googled it and yes it appears that he was not given it because of his "beahaviour" which IMO was wrong. What he does off-screen should not affect what he does on-screen and he was brilliant in ABM. Denzel Washington got it for Training Day, I do like Denzel he is another of my favourite actors but I haven't seen this film.
He was nominated for ABM and also for The Insider but he won his oscar for Gladiator!
Poor show from the Oscar judges really!
Andrea 24-09-2005, 12:37 PM Got a free dvd with the Independant today.
Kevin Spacey in "Swimming with Sharks", so shall be watching that soon.
Patsy 24-09-2005, 02:26 PM I love Kevin Spacey and all the films I've seen him in, so it should be a winner A.
:pooh:
msgirl 24-09-2005, 04:41 PM Spencer, my 7 yr. old is in 'Star Wars' mode and we've seen Episodes I and II so many times this week, I'm about to hide them!!! :wallbash:
Coastie 24-09-2005, 06:46 PM Finding Neverland (I so love this movie!)
&
Swimming with Sharks (cos it came free with theb independent...not that I read the Independent it's just that well this is a very good film...unfortunately the sound quality is crap on it...so annoying! :glare: )
Dolores 24-09-2005, 07:13 PM We watched Deep Blue Sea this afternoon.
I know it was panned by the critics but I actually thought it was a very good film. Lots of suspense and good scarey shark scenes. me and my son enjoyed it very much!
I'm sure I could see the plastic moulding seam on the sharks and some scenes were just risible, but overall a darn good yarn!
Bella 24-09-2005, 07:18 PM I love Kevin Spacey and all the films I've seen him in, so it should be a winner A.

I love Kevin Spacey too but you know I absolutely hated American Beauty! :bag:
Dolores 24-09-2005, 07:19 PM I love Kevin Spacey too but you know I absolutely hated American Beauty! :bag:
I didn't "get" American Beauty either Bella! I mean what was all the fuss about? Is it one of those that you have to see more than once to fully comprehend the marvellousness of it? Can't say I'd be forming a queue at Blockbusters to get it out again!
Coastie 24-09-2005, 07:29 PM Ooooh I loved American Beauty...so many classic quotable lines (It's a 1976 pontiac firebird the car I've always wanted and now I have..I rule!.......'I will not be a victim..I will not be a Victim!'.......'How does it feel to be nailed by the King?.....In less than a year I will be dead. Of course I don't know that yet.')
I love it love it love it...it is a great look at mid-life crisis to the extreme and is mesmerising and funny to boot.
But all that said...Mama Coastie and one of my best mates didn't get it either!
Andrea 24-09-2005, 07:52 PM Ooh Coastie, I got that free film with the independant (I don't normally buy it either, but heard it was a good film) I shall have to check if the sound quality is the same as yours.
And I watched American beauty ages ago and really liked it.
I think I'll have to see that again.
Coastie 24-09-2005, 07:53 PM Swimming with Sharks is brillian...Kevin Spacey is a right Mr Lastard in in it.....you'll never look at artificial sweetner the same way again!
maxine 25-09-2005, 08:38 AM American Beauty is one of my favourite films. I love Kevin Spacey.
Last night I watched 'Braveheart' again. (We've joined the Blockbusters DVD by mail service). I'd forgotten how good it was, despite Mel's accent. Very moving.
Patsy 25-09-2005, 08:26 PM I love Kevin Spacey too but you know I absolutely hated American Beauty! :bag:
I've seen in 2 or 3 times now. I love it. Would say it was in my top 10. The relationships are all so powerful in different ways.
Bella 26-09-2005, 01:40 PM Sexy Beast is on C4 NOW! watch it!
It is a stunning film. Ben Kingsley, Ray Winstone and Amanda Redman are brilliant in it.
I love the beginning of this film with the stranglers playing Peaches and Ray Winstone sunning his fat bloated body in his little orange speedos by the pool.
Magnficent film.
Absolutely brilliant film. Loved it too, Dol. Saw it years ago. Ben Kingsley was so shockingly nasty, I was transfixed. The language is extreeeeeeeeeemely colourful, but is essential for Kingsley's character. Ray Winstone is also excellent, in his meek, bloated, ex-con role. A real juxtaposition ( ) for the two of them.
Just watched this film, this morning whilst doing the ironing (there was a lot of ironing, believe me and Mr B was lucky not to get whacked on the head with the iron BUT, that is another story), and got to agree with you both! I loved this film. Ray Winstone isn't your usual totty but he is very appealing! Ben Kingsley was just superb, I was surprised to hear his rather rude Cockney accent as his tones are usually so well-clipped! And have to say Ian McShane was a million miles removed from Lovejoy and also played his part really well!
Great film with not an American actor in sight! Marvellous! :thumbsup
Can't wait to see Ray Winstone in his new TV drama "Vincent" with Karen McDonald (Suranne Jones) and the sexy, gorgeous Mark Warren!
Dolores 26-09-2005, 04:47 PM in the evening we watched The Beach, which was OK but nowhere near as good as the book, which I find is usually the way with books made into films.
I watched this last night and thought it was rather good. But you're right Maxine, nowhere near as good as the book, but in a way I felt that it complimented the book. They made some changes which I didn't really like, but on the whole i really enjoyed this film, although as with the book I felt a bit let down by the ending.
maxine 27-09-2005, 04:15 PM I watched Finding Neverland this afternoon and it was beautiful. I loved it.
Patsy 27-09-2005, 04:24 PM This Mark Warren, Bella?

From The Hustle on BBC. He has a certain something!
Patsy 27-09-2005, 04:42 PM He does. He usually plays a bit of a wide-boy twit who goes too far, but he plays it very well. Used to like him in The Vice, too. Reminds me very much of a young Malcolm McDowell.

I think this was from "If".
We watched a few at the weekend.....
Its All Gone Pete Tong, which was ok, but I think I may have outgrown the Ibiza club/drug culture at last.....
Stander - which I wasnt sure of at first, but after the 1st half hour I warmed to it and quite enjoyed it....
And finally, The Machinist (I think thats what it was called - a really skinny bloke in it) but after 5 mins I headed to bed with my book, Mr I lasted a futher 15 mins before he switched to match of the day
Fee For All 27-09-2005, 08:06 PM Well, technically I haven't watched it yet - but West Side Story has just started.
I love the music :w00t:

Ooooh, he does look like Malcolm McDowell in 'Clockwork Orange'!!! Scary!! They ought to do a father/son role in a movie.
maxine 28-09-2005, 06:50 AM I watched A Beautiful Mind last night - another great film.
bridge 28-09-2005, 01:36 PM I went to see Wolf Creek last night, i would'nt watch it again, i found it quite disturbing to be honest.

What's it about Bridge?? I don't think I've heard about it. I know they seem to have SO MANY scary movies out this year!!! Back in the day I could watch most of them but now when I hear the music start getting eerie I have to change the channel, and I don't purposely rent scary movies or pay to see them. To chicken in my old age!! heehee! p.s. diggin' the 'hippie' look of your pic and peace sign! Right on!
sayangmouse 28-09-2005, 05:45 PM Just saw Revolver....what on earth was that about? Pura mierda.
(good acting, great imagery, but (to me) incomprehensible plot and ending)

I thought Lock Stock etc was absloute ****** and this one is supposed to be even worse ... sorry but I wont be giving my hard earned dollar to make Mr Madonna and his missus even richer!
btw - gansgter movies are my favourite genre of movies ... but Lock Stock was just an artsy fartsy exercise in camera work and what they obviously thought was slick dialogue(!) ... plus it had Vinnie Jones in it (which is a big turn off in my book) so I only watched the first ten minutes, if that.
msgirl 28-09-2005, 09:57 PM They asked Guy Ritchie did Madonna have a part in 'Revolver' or why she didn't star in it and he said that he couldn't get away with that with the critics after 'Swept Away'. She was there when he said it. I wonder if he got cut off when they got home??? I've never seen it but I heard it was awful. I TRIED really, really hard to watch 'Snatch' but with Brad Pitt totally incomprehensible, I gave up shortly into it. Don't think I've seen 'Lock, Stock, ...'
bridge 29-09-2005, 06:39 PM I watched Pitch Black last night - pwoooooooooar at Vin Diesel - dont know HOW I managed to miss him before, fit as ****!!!!
I love that film, bought it on dvd the other day and Vin woo the man is lush, se-x on legs!

it's supposedly based on a true story, one of my American friends tells me it comes out in the States in November ,it's not really bloody or anything just bloody scary Hee! It centres on 3 young travellers who are traveling around Austraila when their car conks out, a friendly Aussie stops by and offers to tow them back to his place so he can fix their car, but unbeknown to them he does'nt want them to leave, its harrowing to watch.
It's the type of film which plays on your mind afterwards, i still can't forget about it!
Coastie 30-09-2005, 06:59 AM Red Eye - Original yet predictable....I shall say no more!
maxine 30-09-2005, 06:59 AM I watched Sexy Beast last night with Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley. I thought they were both brilliant in it especially Ben.
Dolores 03-10-2005, 07:39 AM I watched Sexy Beast last night with Ray Winstone and Ben Kingsley. I thought they were both brilliant in it especially Ben.
Ben was a f**king good c**t of an actor wasn't he! The scriptwriter must have been peeing himself laughing when he wrote that script ... I hope his mother didn't read it!
I watched Miss Congeniality last night ... I believe it was a box office hit ... I thought it was crap ... who thinks up the ideas for these films and who thinks they are funny/interesting/worthwhile? I give it 1 out of 10. I'm not sure what the 1 is for, but I can't bear to give it a zero ... I'm just far too lovely!
Bonsai 03-10-2005, 09:02 AM I tried to watch (and i cant remember the name now) 21 grams ??? with Sean Penn. It won Oscars i think and was on Sky last night.
I couldnt get into it at all. It was jumping around all over the place.
So i watched the Shawshank Redemption which i recorded Saturday night, and that was brilliant.
Aondeag 03-10-2005, 09:55 AM I went to see Pride and Prejudice.
YUK....
cardboard Kira.....did'tn like her elizabeth bennet at all.
I thought the younger sisters were fine..and the ma and da were quite well played.
But I have to say...compared to the tv series with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth I found this film totally lacking in SWARTH.
I would'nt give tuppence :-)) for any of the men in this latest film.
AD.
maxine 03-10-2005, 01:10 PM I watched The Life of David Gale which was great, and Bedazzled with Liz Hurley which, apart from being a crap film, completely confirmed that Liz Hurley really cannot act. She was worse than awful.
mikado 03-10-2005, 01:21 PM In went with the family to see Howl's Moving Castle - an animation by Hayao Miyazake, the guy that won an Oscar for "Spirited Away". I gather that the story is very loosely based on a popular children's story (which i've never heard of, but never mind that...)
Anyway, it's an animation set in a semi-realistic world that looks kinda late nineteenth century but with strange flying airships and with wizards and witches. A young woman, Sophie, is cursed by the evil Witch of the Waste to become an aged crone. She runs away from home and takes refuge in the beetle-like travelling "castle" of the wizard Howl. This introduces her to a world of mystery and enchantment - and also danger, as war breaks out and Howl is hunted not only by the Witch of the Waste but also by the royal witch, Madame Suliman. Each of the main protagonists is under an enchantment, and Sophie must find a way to break these spells in order to save her friends.
So much for the plot spiel. I absolutely loved it. The animation is mainly superb, and the characters are well developed. Despite the setting being "unreal" you are very easily drawn into it. Although this is a good film for children, it's a good film for adults too, especially as the plot gets a bit complicated after a while.
And that's probably the major flaw in the film. Towards the end the plot gets unnecessarily obscure (in my opinion), and when the when the end comes and the loose ends are suddenly all ties up it feels all a bit contrived. It feels a bit like they ran out of time to fit the rest of the story in.
Despite that gripe I'd still highly recommend this film. It looks stunning (and has a good music score too), it has good characters, it has good jokes (Billy Crystal is excellent) and it has some strong messages too. Well worth viewing - with or without kids :)
sayangmouse 05-10-2005, 08:39 PM Saw Goal! today.
Must admit to enjoying it. Not going to win any oscars, and all the same old cliches you see in the sort of Rocky films, but it never hurts to see them done again as long as they are done quite well, and the movie pulls it off as long as you don't look at it too hard.
Saw History of Violence yesterday.
Pretty brutal, some scenes seemed a little bit over-the-top in what was essentially a character development movie. Well acted, simple plot, fast paced, pretty good.
(starting to notice in all these movies how the old farmer, or the illegal Mexican immigrant, or the old gardener, or whoever, always has PERFECT teeth, a la Jodie Marsh, these days!)
Bonsai 06-10-2005, 08:33 AM I watched Alien vs Preditor (sp) last night. It was really good. I found it in the bargain bin in Woolworths
sayangmouse 06-10-2005, 03:24 PM I loved Alien vs Predator, can't wait for the rematch!
I liked the fact that they actually thought of a semi-logical premise for why the two would meet up for a scrap in the first place, with the Predators traditionally using the Aliens as gladatorial material to test their predatory prowess. All great fun, just park the brain in neutral along the way!
(just wondering if AvP II can omit humans entirely? They already have the premise of the Alien-Predator hybrid on the Predator homeship, so its almost back to Alien I, but with Predators in place of Ripley and Co. Quite a test - can they get character development out of the Predators! They did it with Klingons I suppose. Maybe they call Arnold and Ripley for some consulting help....)
Dolores 06-10-2005, 03:26 PM (starting to notice in all these movies how the old farmer, or the illegal Mexican immigrant, or the old gardener, or whoever, always has PERFECT teeth, a la Jodie Marsh, these days!)
with me I always notice the fingers nails and hands ... beautifully manicured no matter what their job/social status/state of their nerves is!
sayangmouse 06-10-2005, 03:33 PM Actually, one thing I noticed in Cinderella Man Dol was that Russel Crowe had some digitially added dental flaws! Might become SOP to make the actors all look less perfect through digital downhancement (I just made that word up) or...maybe look for imperfect actors?
Hey, then they can all get fat and happy and be digitally downsized for the screen.
Patsy 06-10-2005, 06:03 PM Watched Paper Moon this afternoon. Bless.
Dolores 06-10-2005, 06:40 PM Watched Paper Moon this afternoon. Bless.
lol! me too!
it wasn't quite as charming as I remember it when i first saw it, but it was still a very nice piece of work!
sayangmouse 06-10-2005, 07:52 PM Watched Serenity today. Pretty good fun. A storyline, some interesting characters, some originality in some areas (the main man "strap some bodies on the front of the ship". Costar: "You can't disrespect them like that, they were our friends". Main man: "Do it or I shoot you" (he means it, she does it...not quite Captain Jean luc Picard style))
Watched Fargo last night - it was the first time I'd properly watched it the whole way through. Great film!
Coastie 08-10-2005, 07:45 AM Goal! - saw it at the cinema yesterday with Mama Coastie ...even if you don't like footie this is a great film! Inspirational and uplifting...with some toty too!
Bonsai 10-10-2005, 09:24 AM I had a 'channel 5' night last night. I watched 'Dirty Dancing' and had a good cry, and then 'Cocktail' with Tom Cruise.
A fantastic evening.

Ewwww do you think  I didnt like him very much.
I love Dirty Dancing, and adore seeing the dancing scenes. I also lusted over Patrick Swayze, even though i dont normally fancy him remotely. He looks great in a tight black t-shirt and black trousers ... and his Tux looked fab on him too. I wish i could dance the waltz with him :w00t:
Ewwww do you think  I didnt like him very much.
I have always found him very sexy, I know he is not your typical hunk but there is just something about him!
Does anyone else think so, or am I the only one?
Coastie 10-10-2005, 07:30 PM I like his voice Ils (after all he is an Aussie) but the rest of him you can have hun! :bye:

Have you seen him in FX and FX2? :naughty:
Yes I have :D
I watched a Ding Dong of a film last night on Sky - 21 Gramms with Sean Penn. Anyone seen this?
He is such a good actor - I loved him in Sweet and Low Down too.
Coastie 11-10-2005, 06:25 AM I watched 21 Grams for Benicio Del Toro and Sweet and Low Down for Anthony LaPaglia.
I would recomend 21 Grams but Sweet and Low Down is like having root canal work without anesthetic....painfully dull...
I am not a Sean Penn fan by the way.
Bonsai 11-10-2005, 09:11 AM I tried to watch 21 Grams a few weeks ago - and i couldnt get into it. It flitted around soooo much. One minute Sean penn was getting out of bed fit and healthy, the next he was in hospital wearing a tube, the next he was in a car !!!!! It was weird. The same with all the other characters.
After half an hour i gave up :ninja:
It all became clear as time went on.
"Saw" - absolutely loved it. Very creepy indeed.

Fee For All 12-10-2005, 07:51 PM I'm currently watching Johnny Depp playing Keith Richards in Pirates of the Caribbean
Bella 12-10-2005, 08:08 PM Stop it Fee, that is unfair and extremely unkind! I don't have any Johnny Depp films to drool over - although Finding Neverland and The Pirates of The Caribbean are on my Santa list!

I will never look at Cary Elwes(sp) the same again after seeing him chained to that table in one of those commercials I watched unawares!!!! ewwwwww! Coastie 16-10-2005, 01:59 PM Escape from Sobibor
Haven't seen this in years and it used to be one of my fave films of all time. It was the first film I watched as a kid that really made me think hard about the atrocities of the second world war.

Well the last film i watched was this morning and it was (no bloody laughing) "Greyfriars Booby" i mean Bobby!!! my little boy loves it so he made me sit and watch it with him.
Dolores 16-10-2005, 05:49 PM I have finally watched The Usual Suspects! I brought it for a pound at a car boot sale today and it made for a very pleasant Sunday afternoon's viewing.
An excellent film, even though unfortunately I knew who Keyser Soze was I still thoroughly enjoyed it!
Great acting, great writing, great directing! did it win any oscars?

Bonsai 16-10-2005, 07:20 PM I recorded 'runaway bride' the other day with Julia Roberts. Its strange though, now ive recorded it, i dont really fancy it.
Has anyone seen it. Is it any good ?
Patsy 16-10-2005, 08:19 PM Yes. It's rubbish. A very poor attempt at a second teaming of Geer/Roberts.
I agree with Patsy, it is rubbish Bonnie, it is not a film I would watch again.
Just watched Spiderman again, now theres a film I could watch over and over again
Coastie 17-10-2005, 07:07 AM It's pants Bonnie....unless you are in the mood to remove brainb and vegitate in front of the TV for a couple of hours!
Ils....Tobey McGuire annoys me so I avoided seeing Spiderman again in favour of watching Lost as I hadn't seen last nights episode yet!

msgirl 18-10-2005, 11:48 PM In all honesty, I can't complain too much as I'm addicted to "The Wizard of Oz" and my mother said that they put it on t.v. when I was about 4 yrs. old (1969) and I have watched the past 36 yrs. everything year around Thanksgiving PLUS I have the DVD and VHS and still get meloncholy and watch it. So, I will give my baby a break and just wear earplugs and maybe read in another room!!!

I'm going to be in it at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley in April.

Watched Terms of Endearment again on Sunday. Gets me every time, dammit. Best thing Shirley Maclaine ever did, apart from flipping her wings and flying to Daddy in Sweet Charity.
I don't know whether to go and see HP or Narnia. I really want to see both, so do the kids.
msgirl 21-11-2005, 11:50 PM We now have all [B]3[B] Star Wars movies and he's saying the lines along with...I watched '50 First Dates' this weekend and this awesome documentary called 'Paper Clips' about schoolkids in Tennesee who started a children's Holacaust museum. They got one of the original railcars used to transport the Jewish people to the concentration camps and put some memoribilia(sp?) in it as well as 6 million paperclips in a glass case to represent the souls exterminated or who didn't make it out of the camps. They got paper clips from all faiths and denominations of people and from all over the place. It is an awesome docu and I squalled through it like a baby. See it if you get the chance.

I watched Hellboy tonight. It was pretty good, but not good enough to tear me away from my book which I read throughout! Although my 11 year old son and his friend enjoyed it
Coastie 27-11-2005, 06:51 PM Twelve Monkeys.....seen it a few times now but enjoy it more with every viewing!
Bella 27-11-2005, 07:16 PM I have only seen this once, Coastie and got completely confused. Maybe I'll have to re-watch to get it!
I bought Finding Neverland this week - a bargain at only £6! I am hoping to watch this for the first during the week!
Coastie 27-11-2005, 07:25 PM Finding Neverland: Oh I love that film sooooo much...bought the DVD yonks ago....I love it for the simple reason that it takes me right back to my childhood and the games I used to play then...they were so real to me....oh and you might want a box of tissues for the ending Bella!

Bonsai 28-11-2005, 10:20 AM I watched 'Open Waters' last night - where the couple get left in the water after a scuba diving trip. It was a shortish film (about 1hr 15mins) but it was good.
Aondeag 28-11-2005, 10:35 AM I watched 'Stigmata'....with Gabriel Byrne and some pretty blonde girl..can't remember her name, but it was very very good.
I taped it from telly as i love gabriel byrne..but it was such a gripping tale that I did'nt even have to fast forward the icky bits.I would like to watch it again and i now have to 'google' tons of things to answer all my questions raised by this film.
maxine 28-11-2005, 12:59 PM Finding Neverland is a beautiful film.

I quite fancy that one too, Bridge as I really like Jodie Foster and Sean Bean is in it too, so even better!!! Though as usual I guess this will have to wait until it comes out on DVD.
Max, agree with The Last Samurai, a film - Mr B brought this home from the DVD rental shop and have to say I didn't exactly whoop with joy at the thought of seeing but by the end my mind was completely changed.

Coastie 28-11-2005, 07:36 PM I'll probably go and watch yummy Sean Bean in Flight Plan during my days off Bridge...I'll let you know if it's worth the effort!
The Constant Gardener is definately worth a look if anyone is thinking of a cinema trip and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is good fun.
I watched 'Mister Roberts' again today....Henry Fonda (yummy) and James Cagney...love this film!

Woodstock 29-11-2005, 11:07 AM I watched approximately one 1 min and 13 secs of a Sri Lankan film by the name of "Flying with One Wing" (or something along those lines). As the chronology of my commitment suggests the film was lacking in the way of any interest whatsoever.
Ahhh....they don't make Sri Lankan movies quite like they used to......
Coastie 03-12-2005, 07:00 AM Yay...went to see 'Mrs Henderson Presents' yesterday and loved it...great fun! Very theatrical so may not be to everyone's taste but I enjoyed this true story of one womans quest to make the world a happier place esspecially for the young troops of WWII!
Did I tell you that I had a private screening of 'Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang' the other week? If I didn't here's the story...I went to the local multiplex on a week day, as I so often do, and I bought my ticket for this film...went in sat down and found I was the only one there! This would have been fab were it not for a hyper imagination playing tricks on me with the surround sound and low lighting...I was constantly spinning in my seat to see if any monsters or mad axe men were creeping up on me... Mama Coastie said I obviously watch too many films!
JakeyBoy 03-12-2005, 01:39 PM The last film I watched was Mad Max two nights ago

Kittencat 05-12-2005, 11:18 AM Entertaining enough, but not quite in the same league as 'Toy Story' or 'Shrek'.

Bella 07-12-2005, 01:23 PM Watched Finding Neverland last night, what a truly magical story. Kate Winslett & Johnny Depp worked really well together and Depp's Scottish accent was perfect!
Is it true that all the Llewelyn boys died really young and did in actual fact become "the Lost Boys"? I read that Michael drowned in his 20's and I think that 2 of them died in the first world war. If this is true, they never did grow up which makes the film even sadder!
I got the DVD and I never usually bother with all the extras that are on DVD's but I watched all of this one and really enjoyed that too.
Dol, have the tissues near you when you watch this you'll need them!
Bella 07-12-2005, 01:34 PM Just done a quick google search - Michael drowned just before his 21st birthday, George was killed in action aged 22 and Peter committed suicide by jumping in front of a train but he was 63 when he done this. There were also 5 boys, Nicholas being the youngest but he wasn't mentioned in the film was he?
msgirl 17-12-2005, 08:01 PM Oh Bella, I ADORED this film and I'm tempted to buy it!!! I love Peter Pan. I cried like a BABY through it so Dol she's right about the tissues!!! I rented "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" last night and hubby and I were too tired to watch it so I hope we get to see it tonight. I would attempt to watch "War of the Worlds" but someone said it was crap AND I'm boycotting Tom Cruise b/c of his behavior and comments lately. And I just thought he was SOO good in "The Last Samuri"(sp). Has anyone seen "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" that can tell me if it's good???

Aondeag 19-12-2005, 12:20 PM Ah don't worry B.It's just the story that is bad...(and Angelina Jolie's acting)
but I guess people don't watch her for her acting ability.
The shoot outs and stuff are ok...and the weapons.
It's a bit of fun, but there is absolutely NO chemistry between the two, you would never guess they were having an affair whilst this film was being made.
bridge 19-12-2005, 04:05 PM well the last film i saw was Saturday Night , the new 'King Kong' film, it was really good, great special effects, but i would'nt want the big ape breathing or far-ting near me! thank you very much.:nono:

I would give it 9/10.

Patsy 21-12-2005, 09:38 AM I watched The Princess Bride - again! It was on Channel 5 last night. Always makes me giggle.
Bonsai 21-12-2005, 10:38 AM I recorded 'The Passion of Christ' last night, and im in two mind whether to watch it or not.
I have heard it is very gory from start to finish, and a lot more graphic than most horror movies.
Im not sure i can stand to watch Jesus being nailed to the cross in graphic technicolour detail.
Aondeag 21-12-2005, 11:14 AM Hi..it IS very graphic.Sickeningly so....I saw it on the big screen in the cinema, and I had to keep looking away. It's not just the nailing to the cross..it's the flailing and whipping and stuff too.
But I thought it was a great film...very 'human' and very passionate.
I was in bits by the end of it tho.
Be warned.
Dolores 22-12-2005, 06:33 AM I went to see King Kong on Tuesday. It was fabulous, I haven't seen a film of that genre (monster, sci-fi) that impressed me so much.
At three and half hours it was a bloody long film, but I have to say it never dragged and for a lot of it I was on the edge of my seat!
Bridge, I know you said about the farting of King Kong ... but be honest did you see him wee or pooh once? I didn't! All he would have had to have done on top of the empire state building was start throwing his pooh at those planes and he would have knocked 'em right out of the sky!
I thought Jack Black was very good and so was the woman (don't know who she was).
A most excellent film ... but very very long! I was desparate for a cup of coffee by the end!

Dolores 29-12-2005, 10:50 PM just finished watching The Godfather for the 1000th time! In fact I'm sure I've already said that at least one other time in this thread!
I got the dvd trilogy plus a bonus dvd about the making of the film for Christmas. it is fascinating to see how it was made and how all the actors came together. Incredibly the studio executives weren't keen on Al Pacino having the role of Michael but Coppola fought against them, also they were adamant that Brando wouldn't be in the film.
Expect lots more fascinating insights into this masterpiece now that I have the background material on it!!
I shall be watching The Godfather Part II later ... so expect more trivia about that coming up soon!!!
Patsy 30-12-2005, 09:06 AM Watched a film called The Family Man on telly last night, with Nicholas Cage (coincidentially, Francis Ford Coppola's nephew, as I'm sure you know Dol).
One of those stories with a moral. A bit confusing for my 10 year old at the beginning, but once we got over that, it was an enjoyable family movie. And it didn't involve giant elves, Father Christmas or animals. Marvellous.

do you know I didn't know that, Patsy ... but keep the trivia coming ... I live for trivia!
I also watched Signs the other night with Mel Gibson ... actually I watched it with my son but Mel Gibson was in it! We both enjoyed it and thought it was quite creepy in parts but not scarey or bloodthirsty.
Bonsai 30-12-2005, 01:01 PM Ive watched lots of films over the last few days - too many to mention. BUT the ones that stand out in my mind are:-
Mr & Mrs Smith - I really enjoyed this film and thought it was a good mix of comical and action.
War of the Worlds - this was good and i enjoyed it, but my mind started to drift around the middle.
Grey Owl - this was on TV yesterday. I have seen it before, and its a really good film. Pierce Brosnan plays the part well.
Dolores 30-12-2005, 06:53 PM we've just watched Day After Tomorrrow ... we've just done a trip to Blockbusters!
We'd seen it before at the pictures and although the special effects are excellent and the acting is OK, the storyline is ludicrous in the extreme!
We also got out, Bourne Supermacy - my son's other choice and Mystic River - my choice and probably not suited to 12 year olds! I've also got Finding Neverland to watch ... but I don't seem to have got round to it yet ... maybe tomorrow.
Coastie 30-12-2005, 06:59 PM Just watched half of 'Chicken Run' before coming to work...gosh I love that film! It's fantastic!
Patsy 30-12-2005, 09:23 PM Just watched Shaun of the Dead again. I let the boys watch it this time. The only bad thing about it is the language, really. And I'm sure they hear worse at school. It's very low-impact gore and has some great comic bits in it.
Bella 30-12-2005, 10:03 PM we've just watched Day After Tomorrrow ... we've just done a trip to Blockbusters!

Mystic River is a great film, Dol! Watched Pirates of the Caribbean on Tuesday whilst doing a huge pile of ironing and watched the fabulous Cool Runnings with the excellent John Candy (I cry everytime I see this) and The Man in the Iron Mask today and my friend phoned 10 minutes before the end so I missed what happened............anyone seen this and care to fill me in how it ended.

The butler did it :whistling
msgirl 31-12-2005, 01:08 AM I TRIED watching 'Kingdom of Heaven' but hubby sat asking questions throughout the whole thing....plus I really didn't feel well enough to get into it! Then hubby rented 'the Dukes of Hazzard' and that was just enough to kill me over!! It was NOT Oscar material!!:sleepy:
Coastie 31-12-2005, 02:20 AM Oh dear MissG, if only I had known of your intentions, I would have warned you off of both! :sleepy:
Dol...Mystic River is a thinking persons film.....so you should be fine!
I have seen the Man in the Iron Mask but can't for the life of me remember how it ends...sorry Bella
Bon Bon...Grey Owl is worth watching to ogle at Pierce Brosnan only and even then....
Dolores 31-12-2005, 08:25 AM Dol...Mystic River is a thinking persons film.....so you should be fine!
I bet it killed you to write that!! lol!
Last night i watched Insomnia with one of my favourite actors, Al Pacino. It was very good and by the end of the film he looked dreadful ... you really felt that he hadn't slept for 6 days and nights! I enjoyed it although I did think it was quite predictable, it was still exciting enough to keep me awake until 1am!
maxine 31-12-2005, 03:44 PM Austin Powers with the appalling Liz Hurley.

Dolores 31-12-2005, 07:58 PM somebody save me please!
I'm watching Mr and Mrs Smith ... or at least I was pretending to, until I gave up completely.
It is terrrible. The acting from Brad Pitt is as usual style over substance and "that woman" is pretty wooden aswell.
Total crap ... I may be being unfair maybe the last 10 mins were the best part of it!
maxine 31-12-2005, 10:04 PM you are so classy i could weep!
I tell you what Bill laughed so loud at this crap I honestley thought the neighbours would hear. Boys and toilte humour, eh?
"White Noise" - utter tosh!
The Shipping news.
I watched part 3 this afternoon. It was a complete mistake as I have never heard of this film, I was taping it for Mr Bob but he forgot to take it home with me so I decided to watch it while had nothing better to do.
Lovely, lovely film. I want to end up somewhere like that.
And did you know (those whgo have seen it) that the little girl Bunny was played by three sisters
Patsy 02-01-2006, 05:07 PM Yes, this was a lovely film, Bobski.
Watched Grease AGAIN. A great feel-good film.
Hazel 02-01-2006, 05:23 PM The Devils Rejects :shocking:
Andrea 02-01-2006, 10:42 PM Yep, me too, watched Grease today, brilliant, can't get enough of it.
Also watched over the weekend, Chicago for the first time. I really enjoyed that. I never really new the storyline before, just knew some of the tracks from it.
I'd love to go and see it on the stage.
Also watched tonight, "Catch me if you Can", rather liked that film as well.
Who ever said "Crime doesn't pay", that guy did ok by it.:w00t:
Bella 02-01-2006, 10:55 PM Catch Me If You Can is a brilliant film, seen it before but what a life that guy had and really what a genius!:w00t:
Have to say I struggled with Catch me if you can, for no other reason than Leonardo DiCrapio was in it. He just doesn't seem believeable in it. IMHO.

I really enjoyed this film and I was so glad in the end when it all turned out well. he was a lonely boy and I felt sorry for him.
Also thought Leonardo was very good! Why are people always so rude about him? I always think he's pretty good in the films I've seen him in!
Bonsai 03-01-2006, 09:22 AM Also thought Leonardo was very good! Why are people always so rude about him? I always think he's pretty good in the films I've seen him in!
I think he looks about 12 years old ...... so i too think he is unbelieveable when trying to play 'grown ups'.

I caught the end of this, too. Saw it on Sky before, though.
I also watched some of Chicago again, for about the zillionth time. I'd love to see it on stage, too. How about we do our own production? Baggsy being Roxy and Groucho can be Billy Flynn. I could sit on his lap and he could work me from behind. (You gotta know the film.)

Ooohhh i watched that too - and i thought it was very good .... although i gasped at the dog sequence
I didnt know Ashton Kutcher (otherwise known as Mr. Demi Moore) was such a fine actor.

kookycat 03-01-2006, 08:54 PM the bodyguard, picked it up in asda coz i wanted a cheap dvd and it was pretty good! first time i watched it properley coz i did watch it when i was younger and i didnt really get what was happening. the only thing i remember was whitney's robot costume!
Bonsai 04-01-2006, 08:34 AM Is the 'Butterfly Effect' a scary movie?? I've not watched it b/c I thought it was....:shocking:
Hmmmmm no, its not scary. Its basically about a boy who suffered from blackouts. He is treated for brain disease which also effected his father. He is advised by the doctors to write journals, writing every little thing about his day down.
He finds out when he is older how to go back in time and see why he had the blackouts in the first place .... and put right the wrongs.
It was a brilliant film, and well acted. It was also very thought provoking and powerful at times.
I would strongly recommend you watch it.
bridge 05-01-2006, 04:50 PM the last film i watched was Planes , Trains and Automobiles, i love that film, have seen it so many times but it never fails to make me laugh. John Candy when he wakes up from sleep holding Steve Martins hand, Steve says "where's your other hand?" to which Candy replies "between two pillows" ............THOSE ARE'NT PILLOWS!!!!! so funny.

I thought this film was so funny too, bridge. i loved the bit where Steve martin totally lost his rag with the check out woman at the airport and demanded transport with expletives punctuating his every other word! :w00t:
didn't you also find it painfully sad with John Candy at the end, when it turned out .... well I wont spoil it for those who haven't watched it .... but I was sobbing my heart out I thought it was so so sad and yet it had been so funny.
It ends up being a heartwarming film and I must have been feeling soppy at the time cos I remember it touched me quite deeply!

Coastie 06-01-2006, 08:09 PM Gotta love it...
They are saying that this years cinema viewers was down on previous years by quite some margin.
They say this is due to the fact that the films are released on DVD so quick now and the pirate DVD industry....
Funny...I thought it was because it's so darn expensive to go to the cinema these days.....:shocking:
Also..on aside note...if they blame low cinema attendance on early DVD releases then why do they release the films so early...they may have limited control over the piracy market but they sure as heck can slow the DVD release time.....I remember having to wait a year or more for a DVD to come out...now it's a matter of a few months!
Andrea 06-01-2006, 11:49 PM I totally agree with you there about the DVD releases.
It's like at Xmas when you were Kids, there was always a film on Xmas day that you hadn't seen, and that was the hype of Xms TV.
But now with all the DVD releases, Xmas TV just isn't what it used to be.
Everyone has basically seen the films they are showing.
Although, I have enjoyed a few films over the Xmas period, mainly on Channel 4, though.
Coastie 07-01-2006, 03:59 AM I used to love the Christmas day movie....it would always be something like Star Wars or E.T. running alongside of course The Wizard of Oz...a must for Christmas and indeed they did show two versions of it this year no less.....
I guess if, unlike me, your into the whole Harry Potter scene you would have been happy but other than that all the films were very old and very tired as far as I could see....even the newer ones amongst the bunch seemed to have been on TV already at some point over the year and if not they were pants anyway and not worth watching again....now call me an old poot but I love the likes of 'Oliver', 'Mary Poppins' and of course the reall Christmas classic 'It's A Wonderful Life' to chill out to over the Christmas period as well as a good blockbuster but alas even such classic were missing from this years pants collection.....and the Christmas special TV shows hit an all time low IMHO....
It's the first time in years that I never bothered getting in front of the TV on time or taping anything over the whole of the Christmas period and believe me thats as rare as rocking horse do do.....mind you I'm rarely bothered about anything much on TV these days...it's as if all of a sudden I recognise it all as a bunch of dull drivel..... and with Without a Trace coming to an end this Tuesday there will be nothing for me to really look forward to anymore!
Woodstock 07-01-2006, 10:21 AM .....Withnail & I
I've been aching to see this film ever since I watched "I Love.....1987" on Beeb2 - where the "sit-down-and-pretend-you-can-remember-even-though-we've-just-paid-you-handsomely-to-sit-in-a-small-theatre-with-all-the-other-celebs-that-we've-commissioned-to-watch-as-a-group-all-the-archive-material-so-that-it-jogs-your-memory-and-you-don't-look-foolish-when-we-prompt-you-to-talk-about-those-old-programmes-and-fads-and-fashions-etc-etc-so-that-it-appears-that-you-remember-them-like-the-back-of-your-hand" gave it some good words.
Recorded it on S4C (of all channels) a coupla nights ago. Watched the first 20-25 minutes last night and thought it was just fantastic. It has to be the best British movie I can recall seeing, and quite wonderful script too.
"I DEMAND to have some BOOZE!!"
btw, for those not in the know, S4C is simply Welsh Channel 4 - don't freakin' ask me how the hell i can receive their transmission but all i know is that if i am unfortunate to forget or miss anything i wished to view on Channel 4 (England), then i have a second bite of the cherry with this channel, as it straggles a week or so behind. Isn't Wales brilliant!!

I agree Coastie, I remember the time when you used get the Radio Times and circle all the programmes you wanted to watch and all the ones you would be taping. I only taped Dr Who this year, nothing else was worth the bother.
And I agree re the oldies like It's A Wonderful Life - they did have Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on though and I could watch that until the cows come home. I think the musical is coming to Edinburgh later this year and would love to see that version.
Even Friday & Saturday night TV has gone down the pan big-time!
As for films last watched - caught Charlotte Gray last night (missed the first half-hour as watched Soapstar Superstar) and it was quite good, it showed that there was a bit more to the war that just soldiers fighting and the lengths that some of these people went to, to help their fellow countrymen.
Coastie 07-01-2006, 08:19 PM I watched The Phantom of the Opera on DVD the other day with the incredibly yummy Gerrard Butler as the phantom...he's the only one who sings all of his own songs aswell....I'm in love
Also started to watch the amazing Down Fall on More4 the other night but saddly was so tired I could only stay away for half of it....this is a film that is based on the books of two people who were close to Hitler in his bunker during the last days of the war. It's incredibly powerful and really should win loads of awards...its by the same guy who directed Das Boot and has subtitles but that by no means distracts from the powerful and captivating performances of the guy who plays Hitler and his supporting cast....amazing film...one of my true highlights of the year!
msgirl 10-01-2006, 04:38 AM Has 'Tristan and Isolde' been out over there yet?? It starts this Friday and I want to see it but if it sucks eggs, I'd rather not. Anyone seen it yet???
Ladies in Lavender with Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. A lovely film.
Coastie 12-01-2006, 07:54 AM Running Scared - not a film for the faint of heart.....staring the increasingly yummy Paul Walker.
Basic plot - Walker is involved in a drugs deal that goes bad and during which two police officers are shot...very hectic opening scenes....he (Walker) is then tasked with getting rid of a distinctive gun used in the killings - a neighbours kid gets hold of it and shoots his abussive father before going on the run. Walker needs the gun back as he has a dodgey cop and the gang involved in the shooting after him and the kid as the father survives and says it was the kid that shoot him and describes the distinctive gun to a tee. The kid encounters the most evil and darkest sides of life as he tries to stay away from the police.....including a married couple involved in kiddie porn...they are extremely creepy....anyway the violence and shock factor is ever present causing the occasional stomache churn as the screen displays the deep horrors of life.....
Very well writen, very well shot and extremely well acted....worth a look if you can stomach it.:shocking:
Bonsai 18-01-2006, 09:41 AM I watched 'Saw' last night on Sky. It was good. Quite grisley, but not too OTT. Very enjoyable film.

Aondeag 19-01-2006, 09:56 AM I saw 'BREAKFAST ON PLUTO'....

it's sad..it's tragic..it's awful...but it's hilarious,

Yes although it is very violent, I found it funny too in a sick kind of way. Not really my type of film though, I much prefer a click flick anyday!
Patsy 19-01-2006, 04:25 PM So, the head-blowing-off bit in the car in Pulp Fiction not your kind of thing either, then ils?
I love it. Class Tarantino. Violence with humour.

No I don't think so Patsy, although I haven't actually seen Pulp Fiction. I have no intention of seeing it either, as it just doesn't appeal.

Then I could pop you one for dissing my butt! Then we could have a jolly old time!!:kid:
floopy 21-01-2006, 08:35 PM Hell yeah, I need a kindred spirit to go see films with. Cockers will only go the cinema if there's aliens and lots of blood (in the film, not in the audience, natch)

We watched The Island last night too - I quite enjoyed it, didnt know that Sean Bean was in it :naughty:
Coastie 24-01-2006, 04:59 AM I watched 'The March of the Penguins' the other day.....couldn't help but think of Maxine!
A wonderful piece of documentary film making sponsored by the National Geographic. It follows a year in the life of the Emporer penguins and displays the highs and lows of life in Antartica. I laughed and very nearly cried...wonderful!
Coastie 28-01-2006, 07:19 AM The New World - if you are thinking of going to see this movie I suggest you book in for some root canal work instead....it was painfully slow and boring and reminded me of all the resons why I am not a Terrence Malick (writer/director) fan....even Colin Farrel looking incredibly buff and sexy couldn't save this film for me which consited of monotone narration, long still shots and even longer moments of silence!
JakeyBoy 28-01-2006, 01:32 PM Fled was the last film
Bella 28-01-2006, 07:49 PM Saw King Kong last night - loved it! I could have fallen asleep for the first hour as it was quite boring but once they got onto Skull Island it was just brilliant - a few glaring flaws like where did all the tribal people suddenly appear to and how did they manage to get King Kong back to New York on their small boat but that aside I loved it. And I cried & cried at the end, it was just so sad!
Coastie 29-01-2006, 12:32 PM JB - Fled is a good film if you want to remove your brain for a couple of hours....I have watched it a couple of times and enjoyed it under those terms.
Bella...I really cannot be bothered with King Kong...apparently alot of other people have felt the same way as it hasn't made nearly as much money as they thought it would...it has still made a profit but you know Hollywood....it's the whole Adrien Brodey thing for me...I CAN NOT STAND HIM...he just irritates really irritates..
I am looking forward to going to see Munich tomorrow, Steven Spielbergs latest creation based on the aftermath of the 1972 Palistian attack on the Isreali athletes during the Munich Olympics. Looks highly controversial and I am totally psyched about it! :w00t:
Dolores 29-01-2006, 12:49 PM I watched Rabbit Proof Fence last night. I have to say it moved me greatly.
Kenneth Branagh was of course excellent in his role as Chief Protector of Australlia response for trying to "breed out" half caste children into white australlians. Very chilling, but so well acted.
The story was just astounding and made even more poignant by showing Daisy and Molly at the end as they really are today. What strong women they must be and what a sad life they've led.
Coastie 29-01-2006, 02:02 PM I watched it last night as well Dol...a wonderful peice of film making and one which told the girls story tastefully and highly effectively. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
JakeyBoy 29-01-2006, 04:07 PM God I hate that film. They made us watch it in class.... twice! :bored: I almost died! It gave me that feeling of "Why the hell am I wasting my time" Do you know that feeling?
Coastie 29-01-2006, 04:40 PM "Why the hell am I wasting my time" Do you know that feeling?
Thanks to Terrence Malick, yes I do!
However...Rabbit Proof Fence was brilliant!
JakeyBoy 29-01-2006, 05:02 PM BOOOORRRRIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG - I thought you had taste Coastie lol
Fee For All 29-01-2006, 05:10 PM Why was it boring? The script? The acting? Or something else?
You'll have to do better than just BOOOORRRRIIIINNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG :naughty:
(I didn't like it much either, but I'lm not telling you why until after you say :kid: )
JakeyBoy 29-01-2006, 05:18 PM OK, I'll go first! But you have to promise to tell me why you hated it! Promise? Huh do ya?, do ya?
Fee For All 29-01-2006, 05:20 PM I promise!
JakeyBoy 29-01-2006, 05:22 PM lol Good. I hated it coz I didn't want to watch it in the first place and I hated the story! I also hate Aussie movies so that was just the icing on the stupid outback cake!
Now your turn! :) And remember, You promised! :kid:
Dolores 29-01-2006, 05:28 PM gosh fee ... come on now your turn ... don't say it's the same reasons as Jakeyboy!! :kid:
JakeyBoy 29-01-2006, 05:30 PM Yeah you promised :kid: and what was wrong with my reasons?
Fee For All 29-01-2006, 06:11 PM Well, I suppose that's all I'm going to get from JB :kid:
I didn't like it because it was too self-consciously 'worthy' (in other words, it was too far up it's own @rse to be watched). Richard Branagh was like a moustachio twirling baddie from pantomime; in fact I thought all the characters were pretty one-dimensional and predictable.
Which is a shame, because it is an interesting story about recent Australian history, and had it been made a bit more exciting (even at the expense of accuracy), could have encouraged folks like Jakey to find out more about the treatment of indiginent Australians - presumably why it was screened in class?
However, the biggest thing that put me off was the hypocrisy - I read a review around the time it came out and apparently the girl who played Molly was so unhappy during the filming that she kept running away. But because they couldn't find anyone else - and realised that her emotions would be powerful for the movie - they kept bringing her back, against her will. The director excused this by saying her behaviour captured the spirit of her race; I'd say he is no better than the Branagh character.
JakeyBoy 30-01-2006, 04:21 AM Yeah they should of had lasers in it :kid:
Bonsai 30-01-2006, 11:57 AM I liked 'Rabbit Proof Fence' too - although i thought it would be about rabbits  I watched it about a year ago now, and it must of been good as i can still remember it.
I watched S.W.A.T last night with Colin Farrell who was a complete dream boat in it. It was an all action movie and very good.
Coastie 30-01-2006, 06:48 PM Bonnie...Colin Farrell is scrummy but do not get sucked into going to see The New World....he is gorgeous eye candy in it but that is all the film has going for it...it is long and very boring!
I went and watched another yummy man today, Eric Bana, in Munich....a very intriguing, if a little slow at times, film which I have explained in the previous post with regards to it's general content. I enjoyed but it will not be everybodies cup of tea. Oh and Daniel Craig was very good in it to...he's buffed up a little and well isn't bad looking for a blond..Mr Bond!
Woodstock 30-01-2006, 07:33 PM Saw King Kong last night - loved it! And I cried & cried at the end, it was just so sad!
....so basically, what you're saying is....... ......King Kong dies?
Bonsai 31-01-2006, 08:39 AM I saw Catwoman last night with Halle Berry. This film got panned BIG STYLE, but i thought i would give it a go.
It was actually quite entertaining for a Monday evening, but i can see why it was slated. Terrible comic book acting all around. I liked the pussy cat though - Moonlight.
Bella 31-01-2006, 09:23 AM Bonnie & Coastie, I am very, very worried about you two - Colin Farrell - scrummy!!!!! Yeuch - he looks as if he needs a good wash!
Aondeag 31-01-2006, 09:39 AM I saw Munich at the weekend...(I had a VERY political weekend)
