So I like this specific type of frying pan that we got in our survival pack (a rental pack of things you need before the ship comes in with our stuff), and am told I can buy one at the Donkey Hotel.

I am given the address, but wonder two things, what sort of hotel would call itself Donkey, and why they would be selling frying pans. But after a couple months in Tokyo you realise these things are not impossible.

After a couple of aborted attempts, I am standing at the exact location I am told the Donkey Hotel is located...I see a shop called Don Quixote......click, chalk one up for the Japanese accent.

So its 6 floors, and I find my precious frying pan, all good. Junior is with me and we go to see what toys there are in the store. Lots, all sorts of things, and halloween outfits too. Spiderman costumes, superman, the usual....go along the rack....maid uniform, cheerleader, airline stewardess, S&M outfit complete with ankle ropes (huh?). Turns out the childrens toy section is right next to the adult sex toy section. Next to the S&M outfit comes the bedroom gear with 100+ womens dildos (a few remote contol ones, hmmm), porn videos, etc etc. Video of models modeling the bedroom gear.

I look back at little Hideyuki playing with a little X-men figure, and realise its not that far to the XXX-men, so maybe there is some logic there.

Only in Tokyo.

Donkey Hotel :applause:

But why Don Quixote for a shop name? That must be another 'only in Japan'

Lol!

I've heard some great stories about Tokyo. The best one was from one of my colleagues.

Some years ago he did some contract work for a company that was based there and he happend to be there during the Christmas season. Now in Tokyo they don't celebrate Christmas religiously, but they certainly do celebrate it commercially.

One day he was walking past a department store and in the window there was a display of a Christmas scene complete with snow, fairylights, reindeer and presents. At the centre of the display was a lifesize figure of Santa.........................nailed to a cross! :w00t:

Only in Tokyo.

LOL.

I promise to be out with my camera at Xmas and capture the evidence.

The Japanese can sometimes lose the plot. There is a sex hotel here with a statue of liberty on top, Japanese point being liberty etc, but forgetting that the Americans may not see it as a compliment their way of life.

We have a guy at work who often spends Christmas in Japan and he said that the hotel will always put a Christmas tree up in the main foyer with a few baw bawls for them...however it goes up on Christmas morning and is promptly taken down at midnight! :bored:
