The last few nights have been awfully hot, no breeze or coolness anywhere. As a result of the heat I have left an electric fan running for two nights on the trot now and in addition had the windows open. I don't even know if these things are safe to leave running.

The night before last was so stifling I had an asthma spasm at 4 in the morning, which did not help at all yesterday. They are frightening and this one caught me unawares, as it has been a good three years, since I have had any trouble with my asthma at all. I put it down to the heat which is verging on a 100 fahrenheit in the shade and rising. This is about 20 fahrenheit to hot for me.

Today, when I woke and all my sinuses feel completely blocked and I have resorted to sucking catarrh pastilles in an attempt to keep my airways clear and open. I do have medications thank god, but don't want to accustomise myself to much in case I need them for anything more severe. I am going to visit the Dr's on Friday if not before as with going away this weekend, I don't want to get caught short in Ireland, with so much work to finish and a relaxing break to enjoy at the same time. I'm hoping the heat and the asthma do not mar what promises to be a lovely time over the next three weeks.

I am a little worried and hope we have a good thunderstorm soon, just to clear the air. It would be nice for a little rain during the night, but no such luck yet.

Does anyone else feel that it is to hot?

Thank you Bridge,

Well it is still hot, but not so humid today the rain this morning and last night has helped. Last night I was full of energy, so I cut the grass at the caravan, sprayed weedkiller on the weeds growing between the pavings and set up a watereing system for my plants as I don't want them dying during the time I'll be away.

Air conditioning would be wonderful.

I have to say im more of a winter person as i love snuggling into jumpers in front of the fire. I like the summer, but im a little bored with this heat now.

I wish we had air con at work as im steadily melting. I cant concentrate when im too hot. I typed a letter yesterday, and normally my work goes to the boss perfect - but yesterday there were spelling error galore PLUS i spelt the clients name wrong !!!

At home im existing on salads for dinner because i cant bare the thought of cooking anything. I also get very hot eating, and end up sticking to the leather sofa.

Its boring me .... please can we have a couple of days of respite ?

Luckily, I missed most of the heat here as I was in Greece (even worse there, but they have air-con) but when I phoned home, I was told it had reached 91F in our town. So, without air-con I would have been dying.
Got back yesterday and while it was still pretty warm, it was bearable. Today looks like it's going to be much the same. But apparently next week the heat is to return.

Its still unbearably hot in the south east PJ. I think its 32 degrees here today.

When i feel a moan coming on though i try and think of the poor commuters sat in non air conditioned trains / tubes. I used to be one of them, and i would dread the heat.

At least im sat in an office, and although very hot im not sharing my sweat with the poor sod sat next to me.

Must admit I'm enjoying it, but have been dropping down to the sea for a swim or even just a paddle most lunchtimes.:sun: There's a decent off shore breeze down there which makes it very pleasant...

I feel for those in city centres though.....:shocking: I remember working in Soho Square in the early nineties in sweltering heat when you could taste the air - yukky.

I fecking hate this weather for lots of reasons. But something has happend just minutes ago which has made me realise I REALLY despise this heat....

I have just eaten some chicken and the bones are sat in front of me. A few minutes ago, a huge fly came circling around the room, attracted by the smell and flying slowly and lazily because of the heat. It was annoying me, so I waited until it was resting on the wall and then I swatted it with a heavy book. I never would have got it on a cooler day.

When I took the book away, there was a massive brown stain aginst the wall. a BROWN stain.

Flies eat sh.ite don't they.....

Hello PJ,

In Newcastle the temperature in the shade was 97F today. I can't drive when it is hot. Couldn't help notice one of the bus drivers today looked as if he was under hypnosis. I did ask if he was alright and left him with half my bottle of water, as I got off.

Two of the places I have visited today, the exchange bureau for Euros and the building society, had notices apologising for the failing air -conditioning and asked customers to be patient and considerate, that there staff were working in unfavourable conditions.

I do like the sun but I prefer the temperature a wee bit below what it has been for comfort. If I'd been in Greece or Rome right now I'd be on the floor with my back to the fridge to stay cool, and would be sleeping on the floor at night.

I gather the temperature in London at the moment is hotter by another 3 or 4degrees celsius.

That 97 looks very high Mo - it's above the highest recorded temps of 33 for Thursday which were in Surrey.

We have looming thunder and lightning at the moment. I've just come in from the garden where I've been sitting with the neighbours and a (now empty) bottle of scotch. God, I love these civilised summer evenings - pyjamas and coffee mugs of alcohol

It's still registering about 20 on my thermometer and we've been watching the most amazing lightning illuminations from somewhere over the Channel; I was hoping Coastie was on duty tonight as there's an awful lot of helicopter activity out there as well

Hello Fee,

The sizzling temperature in the shade on Sunday in the picturesque small village of Corbridge was a 103 fahrenheit at 1.30 in the afternoon. The coolest place to be was inside the church where the choristers and I were very keen to eat ice cream and drink ice cold pop.

The weather forecasters I would say give you a guideline to the expected temperature, I would hazard a guess that in some parts of Surrey the temperature might have been higher than the 33 celcius recorded especially around mid day.

Oddly enough Whitby on the North East Yorkshire coastline was smothered in a humid thick fog a bit like the pea soup fogs of Old London town, according to news footage for the region.

Sounds like the night sky where you are is very interesting. The only time when we get troubled by aircraft at night here is when the police helicopters are looking for someone or the air ambulance crew are trying to land with a patient for the local hospital. The Bristol Channel should be beautiful just now with the sunsets and sunrises over large stretches of sand.

Do you cope alright with the heat?

Too hot for pregnant ladies to work, so I'm not. I coped with Wednesdays heat by sitting on the beach most of the day as it was the coolest place to be.

Last night was disgusting. I had both the windows open in my bedroom and my bedside fan on full blast and still couldn't get to sleep.
Today looks as though it's going to be a scorcher.

Sounds unbelievable that the coolest place was the beach. Still I hope you enjoyed your time in the sun.

A very helpful article Survivorfan, going to buy some battery operated handbag fans today. Going away tomorrow.

I don't know the ratio between fahrenheit and celcuis, I think its 3 x celuis gives you fahrenheit.

I hope its cooler in Dublin and Cork, than it is here.

Need it to be cooler with a little breaze to get the best out of my voice.

Enjoy the summer all of you.

I don't know the ratio between fahrenheit and celcuis, I think its 3 x celuis gives you fahrenheit.

As a general rule of thumb, to convert Celsius into Fahrenheit, you can double it and add 30.

But the proper way to do it is:

To convert Celsius temps into Fahrenheit:

* Begin by multiplying the Celsius temperature by 9.
* Divide the answer by 5.
* Now add 32.

To convert Fahrnheit temps into Celsius:

* Begin by subtracting 32 from the Fahrenheit number.
* Divide the answer by 9.
* Then multiply that answer by 5.

I just want to know one thing...

Will it be a meteor impact, total nuclear distruction, or drastic climate change which wipes us out??

It appears that a hostile alien visitation would be out of the question due to certain impossibilites, so it has to be one of the above three...

And i think climate change is making a strong case for itself, presently. :sunb:

I mentioned the article as it shows the maximum temperature this month in the UK was 97f - it just made me wonder if "The sizzling temperature in the shade on Sunday in the picturesque small village of Corbridge was a 103 fahrenheit" was the result of a faulty thermometer?
