For the first time in ages I need to go to a hair salon today to get my hair cut and blow dried. Normally my friend who is a hairdresser does my hair. Question is can someone tell me what is the usual tipping rate? Thanks. :)

I tend to tip my hairdresser £5. She is working on my hair for about 3hrs so i think its worth it.

It depends what you're having done, really, but I tend to work on 10% for most things.

Five quid.
Flipping heck you are generous! My hair to be cut and blown is about £30 - I give the girl £3. I did used to tip 50p to the girl who shampoos - am I mean then? I know people who don't tip at all.

Only if you like it, otherwise sue the ********.
I believe I read somewhere that if the salon owner cuts your hair, tip nothing, if one of the lackeys does it then you tip...
Should you tip hairdressers?
I never tip mine, because it takes about ten minutes. I don't feel its long enough

That is the general rule but I have also read that hairdressers today generally do not expect to be tipped - they are given quite a decent salary and they can also earn commission on any other products that they sell.
That said, I pay £27 for mine and I give £30 - the girl who cuts my hair is a junior stylist and have always made a really good job of it. If you want the top stylist to cut it you have to pay something like £55!!!
Think it's just a woman thing Mars...
We just get it chopped off and give a fiver, in and out in ten minutes...

I tip £1 as my hair only costs £10 to cut so that's 10%...
I only tip good food and service in a restraunt (10%)...bad service and food gets a grumble instead!
