View Full Version : Bloody moths... PJ 25-07-2006, 11:52 PM Can't even open a window at night without being bombarded with them. They should all be destroyed  Andrea 26-07-2006, 01:18 AM Squash them all I say, squash them all right now!http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/evil (20).gif http://www.invision.smileyville.net/smilies/evil (7).gif Coastie 26-07-2006, 03:17 AM I just open my window the slightest crack so they can't get in Peej...however this doesn't alwasy work! My biggest bug bear is flies...I can't open my windows for two seconds without an annoying blue/green bottle buzzing in and whizzing around my front room as I am trying to watch TV or eat a meal...I have killed so many with the TV guide I am amazed there are any left in the world...they always come in one at a time and as soon as I've killed one another will pop in...so annoying...I hate flies and they should all die...die...die I tell you! :boxing: Bonsai 26-07-2006, 08:25 AM Hmmmm im being bombarded with flies. We leave our backdoor open from 5:30 until we go to bed, so we get all kinds of creepy crawlies in our house. I seem to be having a lot of spiders lately - which i detest. I had my bath the other night, and half an hour later i went into the bathroom for a wee only to discover a spider the size of a small country in the bath. Where had he been hiding whilst i was washing ????? He was so large you could even see his eyes. I had to call the Big White Hunter (aka Mr.B) in to sort it out - and even he looked a little taken aback. Patsy 26-07-2006, 10:16 AM You think that's bad, my friend at work came home to find a stunned dragonfly with the body size of a fountain pen and a wingspan of about a foot, lying on her kitchen floor. At first she thought it was a rubber toy. She hunted around for her 15 year old son, who she thought was in the house, but realised she was on her own, except for the dog, who was more scared than her! She eventually managed to pick it up with some tongs and put it in the garden. When she spoke to her son about it on the phone later, it turns out that he had been in the kitchen earler, when this thing came flying at him from the laundry pile. He was so shocked that he took a swing at it. He then felt so bad that he had hurt it, he put it under the tap to revive it, then put it in front of the fan to dry off! Anyway, it must have been sufficiently revived to make it onto the floor in time for Janet to get home. When she went home for lunch the following day, I told her to take some photos and this thing was huge and absolutely beautiful. Anyway, her partner was down the end of the garden last night and he suddenly came hurtling in through the patio doors shouting "I didn't kill her! I didn't kill her!" Janet asked him what he was talking about and it seems that this creature must have had a mate, because an even bigger one was flying around the garage. Needless to say, Janet's partner was worse than useless and, with a swift nudge on the garage door and a hasty retreat, Janet managed to get it to fly off. Wonder what happened to the kids? Mars 26-07-2006, 11:13 AM Is it just me or are moths getting bigger and bigger? We had an absolutely ENORMOUS one a few days ago. As big as my fist. I've never seen anyone move as fast! Aondeag 26-07-2006, 11:54 AM I knew I shoult'nt have read this thread. All scared now....I have'nt seen anything as big as all that...Thank Christ...but knowing they are out there is freaky! brrrrrrrrrrrrrr shudder................... msgirl 26-07-2006, 01:07 PM PEOPLE...SCREENS, SCREEN DOORS, AND FFS...AIR CONDITIONING!!! I guess if I visit in the warm months I'm gonna look CRAZY checking my air conditioner at the counter!! PJ 26-07-2006, 02:04 PM PEOPLE...SCREENS, SCREEN DOORS, AND FFS...AIR CONDITIONING!!! I guess if I visit in the warm months I'm gonna look CRAZY checking my air conditioner at the counter!! Unfortunately due to our unpredictable summers, the majority of Brits dinnae have screen doors or air-con. But it's during weather like this I wish we had both. Aondeag 26-07-2006, 02:31 PM Oh you ARE funny MSGIRL....laff! Air conditioning in my neck o' the woods is when you open the window! And a heat wave is 18 degrees! or thereabouts. :rain: Ziller 29-07-2006, 10:35 AM urgghh i hate stuff flapping and buzzing around in the house, really annoying, i wouldn't kill them though, i really hate the big man eating type of moths though, usually get the misses to sort them out, mind you i don't mind looking at them when they're safely trapped in a glass:naughty: My biggest hate though are these.... http://www.trapawasp.co.uk/images/about_wasps_image.jpg I'd extinct them all if i could, they're the skin 'ed of the insect world!!! PJ 29-07-2006, 12:48 PM So would I Ziller. Along with these: http://www.aloha.com/~lifeguards/jellie75.jpg Anyway, back on topic. Woke up this morning to find three fairly large moths in my room. They were exterminated for their cheek. tigger 29-07-2006, 02:51 PM I have two air conditioners, one upstairs and one downstairs. Ooops make that four. Both our vehicles have air conditioners. We generally don't need to use the one downstairs, but the upstairs one is a life-saver on those hot nights. Also we don't seem to be bothered a whole lot with flies where we live. Must be because it's in the city. We just got back from Holland and the amount of flies that were there. I felt like I was in NC all over again. Really got on your nerves whilst you are trying to eat. I hate them. Can't help thinking about them puking when they land either. Ewww. kookycat 29-07-2006, 02:54 PM ugh creepy crawlies during the summer! question. where have all the wasps gone? PJ 29-07-2006, 04:14 PM ugh creepy crawlies during the summer! question. where have all the wasps gone? Good question. There definately isn't as many about as there were last year. And when was the last time anyone saw a ladybird!? mazwad 29-07-2006, 06:49 PM I detest wasps too, absolutely terrified of them. I was thinking that there weren't many around but I think its a bit early yet to start celebrating as August and September are the months the are at their worst. bridge 30-07-2006, 09:09 AM As much as i hate doing it, i have put an end to the lives of countless moth's, they freak me out, and then i have my kids shouting at me " Mum you've killed God's creatures!!!!" Fee For All 30-07-2006, 07:31 PM I had one of these in the dining room last night http://ukmoths.org.uk/images/1637OakEggar.JPG Bloody enormous, but rather pretty. It made a satisfying *pop* when I whacked it:boxing: MariaRob 31-07-2006, 11:49 AM We try not to have the lights on on these hot evenings with all the windows/patio doors open as it just encourages the insects. And the dragon fly, we had a massive one, more like a helicopter fly also into our kitchen. I screamed so much my next door but one neighbour came in to see what was happening. Beautiful things but not welcome when they try to dive bomb you, I get an attack of the vapours just remembering it!! Isis 31-07-2006, 02:35 PM PEOPLE...SCREENS, SCREEN DOORS, AND FFS...AIR CONDITIONING!!! I guess if I visit in the warm months I'm gonna look CRAZY checking my air conditioner at the counter!! Then you come and stay with me hunnie, cos my new appartment will have screens at every window and door and I will be having an air con unit as I REFUSE to open my windows in the summer (And winter, spring and autumn) because of evil moths..... they are my biggest phobia, I can only assume that as a baby, a giant mutant moth tried to kidnap me from my pram, thus resulting in a fear of them that is soooo strong I have been known to sleep in the lounge when there is one in the bedroom and when I lived alone, my 2 male neighbours were used to getting a hysterical female at their door because a giant moth (about a cm long if im being truly honest.........) had invaded my flat and was going to kidnap me, take me to the mother ship and then experiment on me.........:bag: bridge 31-07-2006, 06:10 PM Another thing has anyone else noticed how many God-d amn house spiders there are? I have a colony living at my house, they have babies as well URGH, i sucked up 10 with the hoover yesterday, they are in every room in my house. The worse thing is , i get rid of them all and a few days later they've told all their mates and i have yet more of the darn things !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bonsai 01-08-2006, 08:40 AM Yeah - i mentioned the spiders a while back in this thread Bridge - and we are inundated too. The flies seem to be coming in swarms now. I got home last night - and i had about 30 in my kitchen. It made me feel quite ill, but i dont like spraying fly spray in there. I think its the mild weather - they continue to breed. We need a freak icy spell to kill the fu*ckers off :w00t: Mars 01-08-2006, 02:51 PM Someone told me today that moths eat your ears while you are asleep. I hate t hem even more now I'm ready for round two :boxing: Andrea 01-08-2006, 10:11 PM Someone told me today that moths eat your ears while you are asleep. Arrrrgggghhh, I've had itchy ears lately!:shocking: Oh no, maybe that's the nits that the kids kindly gave me!:w00t: Tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner works wonders, and a nitty gritty comb!:applause: floopy 14-08-2006, 07:32 PM How long do flies live, cos the same two have been living on my PC for the past week and they're doing my head in :wallbash: Buzz 14-08-2006, 07:33 PM How long do flies live, cos the same two have been living on my PC for the past week and they're doing my head in :wallbash: Clean up then you old minger!:wallbash: Runs away mazwad 14-08-2006, 07:35 PM So do they have any defining features then Floopy. floopy 14-08-2006, 07:36 PM :evilmad: two words. She was ahead of my lad and proudly wanted to show him how much she produced... and promptly tipped it all over his head!!! (the two year old, not her mother by the way) floopy 14-08-2006, 07:42 PM  adorable, aren't they. Mine has sussed the gold star thing and is now pouring her orange juice into the potty and bringing it to me in the hopes of getting a gold star :sly: Buzz 14-08-2006, 07:44 PM  adorable, aren't they. He might be thr Johhny Depp of fly-dom for all you know. msgirl 15-08-2006, 02:38 AM Make her drink it better still, don't tell anyone she is putting juice in there and then make her drink it:w00t: :bag: Shall I get me coat? ****snigger**** that was golden Buzz, just golden... :applause: (no pun intended!! ) msgirl 15-08-2006, 02:48 AM Oh yeah...:whistling: back on topic, we're being dive bombed by HORNETS the size of my thumb if we go out on the carport and the lights been on for awhile (waiting for msboy #1 to get in for instance and not coming on the carport in the dark)!! They scare me to death!! I'm sure they will hurt like HELL if they sting ya and I'll probably go into anaphylactic shock!! Hubby says that hornets are not aggressive...the MS Extension Bug Guy say they is, I believe him over hubby! :wink2: Sammboelyn 15-08-2006, 02:53 PM I really can't stand moths, they make me squeal like a girl :D as for flies I actually do not open my window in Summer because if one is in the house I can rest until I've found it and encouraged it out the door (I don't kill things unless they might still Small). It takes forever and is just not worth it. I can't remember who said there weren't many wasps, but I've had heaps, seriously they've sent me running in from my garden about five times this year (which is probably how much I've been out there). I've also seen two in my loft which makes me think there might be a nest. My solution - shut the loft hatch and wait for winter to dispose of them :D I'll worry about them next year. floopy 15-08-2006, 02:58 PM I don't mind creepy crawlies of any type really. I don't enjoy them , but they don't do me any harm, so what's the problem. Wasps are irritating little ****ers, though, but only cos they're deranged and they might sting me. I just give them a wide berth and a honey trap to die in  We've had a few wasps, but nothing major. I;ve noticed more of a decline in the bumble bees population, but that might be cos we used to have apple and plum trees and now we haven't. Unless they're all holidaying in the scottish highlands along with the wasps  Sammboelyn 15-08-2006, 06:40 PM You could be right - #er next door has a garden full of flowers and is attracting the local bee population, I wish she'd take a leaf out of my book and have a small patch of mud so much more manageable and bee-free :D I wouldn't call wasps deranged for wanting to sting you :ninja: floopy 15-08-2006, 07:24 PM Everyone wants a piece of me :pimp: Sammboelyn 15-08-2006, 07:28 PM I'll have your jewllery :D floopy 15-08-2006, 07:35 PM You can have my spell-checker if you like. :pimp: Sammboelyn 15-08-2006, 07:56 PM :offtopic: shouldn't you be in the pedants thread, I've been waiting to see my many errors pop up in there - very disappointed so far  Anyway back on topic, ... erm... *backs out of the thread slowly* floopy 15-08-2006, 08:21 PM Moths. Ever had any in your clothes? I've never seen a clothes moth. There aren't enough hours in the day Sammboelyn 18-08-2006, 12:35 AM Me either but Ziller and his Mrs had an infestation at their old flat and apparantly they were in the carpets and everything, they had to have an exterminator round in the end I think.... uuurgh |
