View Full Version : Cuba??

I'm probably going to be going to Cuba for a couple of weeks over New Year. At the moment the most likely resort is Guardalavaca.

Just wondered if any other posters have been and if they can give me any tips?

My last trip with Mr M was to Egypt and we did a lot of travelling around and sightseeing, so this time we want to go somewhere we can relax completely and perhaps have a couple of days in Havana in the middle to sightsee.
We're hoping whereever we end up will be a nice place to do some walking and exploring too.

We're planning on staying in on of the all-inclusive resorts that have lots of activities included so that if we get fedup relaxing there'll be lots to do.

Anything I should know before I go ahead and book up?

This is on my To Do list before too long. I found out about Cuba via friends in Canada who take their hols there every year and love it ~ seems it's a hot spot for Canadians like Spain is for Brits.
If I find out anything I will let you know!

Why do I have "Spammer?" under my name, in forum terms that's an insult?

I noticed when I did some researching in the web that a lot of Candians go to Cuba!

I've book my trip now, but I'd appreciate any tips of inside info.
I'm going to an all-inclusive resort for a couple of weeks and I'm very excited. Can hardly contain myself in fact!

Not sure about the 'spammer' thing though....sorry. I think once you've posted some more that'll change.

I don't think there are any restrictions on Canadians going, but there are restrictions on Americans, hence the Canadian thing.

I don't think Americans are banned from going there, but it is something like they are banned from taking US$ there or some other technicality.

Cuba was a huge destination from Costa Rica where there are no such restrictions. What I heard was that it is a haven for single men as all the Cuban guys have left, and all the Cuban women are hot and ready to go. So lock up your man.

Also heard a lot of sharks around chasing your foreign money, and a lot of "official tours" where you have to stay in certain places and eat in certain restaurants which are all US$ priced, but that must be loosening up now as the tourist industry has been active for quite a few years now.

A place I always wanted to go, to sit in a dingy smokey bar and listen to Guantanamera (translation, girl from Guantana I think).

It's only a query, Freaky. Can you refute it?

If I have to I could, but to be honest, if that's the general concensus I will just ****** off somewhere else.

Oh, and the name is La Freak, not Freaky! :glare:

Mink, not sure if this is any help, but I always find the 'rough guide' books a really good source of information.

Thanks Andrea - I do have a Rough Guide for Cuba from when I was going to go once before (but didn't end up getting there), but it was printed in 2000 so it's quite out of date - I think I'll invest in another one.

Is spammer given to first posters?

Never really noticed, but it turns out Freaky (oops, La Freak, just being naughty) that after one post we turn into something else. Not sure what the sequence is.

I wonder who'll be running the country by the time you arrive Mink?

Maybe the Communist Utopia will have fallen, and the place be full of Americans spending their dollars?
