Grouch, excuse as follows:

Boss needs to make redundancies and needs someone to discuss it with. If you don't go, you're on the list.

I'd go with a (reasonably) honest "Look (insert endearment here) I'm crap and I forgot I promised to go out tonight. Actually I'm a bit gutted myself as I was looking forward to staying in and (insert whatever you like here) with you. but I promised and they'd be really disppointed if I didn't go. So I'll make it up to you tomorrow by (insert whatever she likes doing/having done :) here).

But that said, an outrageous lie is usually much more fun :D

I think that's Groucho's problem - if he goes out tonight he might not be able to insert his endearment anywhere :w00t:

We'll see...if he turns up here half cut at midnight, we'll know :w00t:

Should we muster the troops and form a search party or sit back and have another cup of tea?

I'd put the kettle on, he's out of the country now for a fortnight.

We'll never know if he did or he didn't :naughty:
