Right. I MAY have mentioned once or twice that we are orf on our holliers on Saturday,and my question to you all is this...

How far ahead do you pack to go away?
HOw much do you take with you?
How much comes home unworn?
Do you bring toiletries half used home or dump them?

I start packing about a week ahead lay it all out on dining room table and add to it as I remember all those necessities that I left off my very long list.

Only take small shower gel, shampoo etc so mostly leave the dregs behind but if it was expensive bring it home, actually that is never as I don't buy expensive toiletries.

This thread spooked me as i was just thinking about what I pack in a flight bag and was about to start a thread on it.

I pack the night before but I mentally start packing a week or so beforehand.

I take as much as I can fit into a suitcase :nerd:

Not much comes home unword except the emergency warm stuff that I havent needed.

I take miniature bottles of toiletries and dump them.

I always leave bit of space in Cocker's suitcase though, for my shopping :pimp:

I start thinking about holiday clothes about 2 months before i actually go anywhere. I buy a few items a week, and i also start a list of things from Boots like sun tan oil etc ...

A few weeks before i ask Mr.B to sort out what he wants to take - and i will wash everything and iron it all. I will then leave it on the spare room bed so he wont wear any thing.

A week or so before i start thinking underwear. Everything time i wash a decent pair of knickers - they are put in the spare room so i dont wear them again before the holiday. By the time the holiday actually comes im normally wearing holey thread bare knickers.

The night before i actually pack the case. I dont shut the case though so the clothes dont get too screwed up.

Oh - and i mix and match our clothes. We have a suitcase each, but half our clothes go in one and half in the other. That way, if a suitcase gets mislaid we will always have something to wear.

How far ahead do you pack to go away?
I start to pack a week ahead so I can check I have all I need and have time to buy anything I am short of or wash any clothing I need for the trip.
How much do you take with you?
Basically just enough for a week...plus any specific gear I may need for the environment I am heading into and what I'll be getting up to once there. I am very minimalist and am happy to wash bits in a sink if need be.

I have small body shop bottles which I refill each trip with liquid soap and shampoo...this can last me up to a month of travelling. I buy sun block once I have arrived or use another small body shop bottle if I know I am only going to need a small amount. Toothpaste is always in the form of the pebble shaped Thermapaste stuff as it is a better container for travel...I never take a tube as they are inclinde to squish and leak!
