Ooh, lets see if I can do a poll on here.

Go on, if it was your decision who would you have in the white house.
And is the election system going to be fair this time or are the American people going to be cheated again.

Apparently Kerry has already got loads of lawyers lined up ready to take the Republicans to court if it becomes a close call in the votes, which in my opinion is going to be.

Actually this (http://www.betavote.com) is a really interesting site.
It was Steve Wrights website of the day today. It's basically a site where people from all the countries in the world can put their vote in for who they want to win in an election.
It's not really very politically scientific but its really interesting to see how people from different countries have voted.
I haven't been able to register my vote as of yet because their server is busy (good old radio 2 for a bit of advertisement) but just check out the list and look for how many countries want George W. back in the Whitehouse :)

sorry guys, I tried to put a web link in there then but it hasn't worked.

Try again (http://www.betavote.com)

Ok it still doesn't work, Here's the page just typed in.......

GO KERRY!!

I already voted...as I had to get an absentee ballot since I can't make it to the voting booth in my home town tomorrow.

I think I will die if Bush is voted president again. He is the stupidest man on earth and he needs to be kicked back to Texas. He is the worst thing that has ever happened for this country. I just saw Kerry at a rally a couple Friday's ago...as my state may just decide the election results...and I say I have much more faith in him. This election has raised more buzz than any I have ever experienced in my life..and it is going to be intense tomorrow as the results begin to come in. Here's hoping we'll have a new president!!!!!!!!!! Down with Bush!!!

Well.....if the US elect a Chimp to be their president again I shall simply die.....

Go Kerry (although from what I have seen of him I'm not totally convinced but hopefully he has a better supporting staff than Monkey Boy!)

Bella

I am with you, Coastie, not totally convinced but he has got to be better than Bush! According to a GMTV poll this morning only 32% of BRITISH viewers want Bush back in the White House. I simply cannot stand the man, he is the sole reason our troops are in Iraq. We never had any conflict...of the war kind....when Clinton was in power. It seems to be that the Republicans just want to fight and control the world.

Go Kerry (although from what I have seen of him I'm not totally convinced but hopefully he has a better supporting staff than Monkey Boy!)

It's a funny place America.

Apparently alot of Americans dislike Kerry, because it has been widely reported that he speaks fluent French.

Americans consider the French to be poor allies and somewhat flakey and effete, therefore they associate these qualities with Kerry.

From a personal point of view, I dislike Bush as he strikes me as a buffoon promoted well above his ability, due to the fact that his dad had the top job previously.

That said, it seems likely that Dick Cheyney, who is a pretty smart guy pulls most of the tricky strings.

The problem with Kerry is not really knowing what he stands for.
He seems to read the polls, decide what people want to hear, make a sound bite.

From a macro point of view, the Republican tendency to run a massive budget deficit scares me and will cause global economic problems in the future if they economy doesnt recover enough to bail them out.

To that extent, I trust the Democrats more on the thing that effects us the most obviously.

Ultimately, I'd go for Kerry, but like alot of Americans it would be more of an anti-Bush vote, than a pro-Kerry vote.

Hilary is sitting this one out as she didn't want to run against an incumbent president.

Popular money says she will run next time, if Dubya wins this one.

I am not sure if Kerry gets in he will last. I do agree she should run next time. For all she talks about wanting to get back to her Graduate Students I also feel Condaliza Rice (sp??) is in the wings for the future.

On discussion with Husband (as I don't have a bloody clue) he has said Bush because he has to see the job thru, Iraqu.

Kerry would not be fully committed and would succumb to pressure to pull out. This would be a world wide disaster. They would be dancing in the streets of Theran and Damascus.

Under normal circumstances Kerry would be the one, but Bush has to see this thru.

He is the stupidest man on earth and he needs to be kicked back to Texas. He is the worst thing that has ever happened for this country.

Despite Kerry looking like Hermun Munster - my vote would definitley go to him. Bush is without doubt in the world/planet/universe the most stupid creature ever in power.

Cat - I see your hubbies point, however Kerry will be 'wowed' if he resolves the Iraq debacle, frankly whatever he does will be better than Bush is doing!!

Oh - my eldest [so politically inclined??] has just informed me Kerry is in the lead by 7 mill - me reckons Kerry will be the next president of the USA!!

Let's hope so. I do agree that there is something really rather strange looking about Kerry! Despite all the "sexual" things with Clinton you have to admit that he some kind of charisma about him - he had the X-Factor!!! :D

my point of view is that I find them both very scary. Bush has eyes that are so close together he looks boss eyed and thick. Kerry looks like Ted Danson (ex of cheers), but his teeth seem to small for his mouth.

My political understanding is very thin, so I don't like to get involved too much as always get knocked out in the first round. But even on my remedial understanding, I find it very scary that such a super state can have such puppets as their leaders.

...ave it.

God Bella again I agree, I was going to post a similar thing. We have just been talking and agreed that what Clinton had was charisma, none of the runners or bush have that. The fact that he loved all the ladies too seems to add to him. He has such a presence and is a very big man - quote Judy (of Richard and Judy).

Yeah, I think the only reason I want Kerry is that I don't want Bush! I would most definitely like to "have" Bill Clinton though!!! ;) :D

Plus there wasn't really any worldy conflict when Clinton was in the house, he seemed like the sort of guy you could invite round to your house whereas Kerry and Bush, I agree are very scary!

That's pretty much how I am voting. I have grown to like Kerry tho, but would have prefered Howard Dean, who also ran for the Democratic vote for the presidency, but lost out to Kerry. However, my main focus of voting is still very much to just get Bush the heck out of office.

This is quite intense...results are slowly coming in at the moment. Things appear to be leaning towards Bush. :(...but many of the key states for Kerry haven't been polled yet...and as we learned in the last election...you can never really tell whether a candidate wins until you count ALL the votes...and then recount them...and recount them again...for three months. lol The two most important states in determining the election are being polled at hte moment..and whoever wins those will probably win the election.

I wonder if they will be allowed to - somehow I doubt it - but this could cause recount after recount - if they are not being allowed to have their democratic right to vote on the basis that too many people voted, I would be wanting to see them have their vote!!

And it is scarily looks like Bush!!

Groucho

Sadly, it rather looks like Bush will take Ohio, which will return him to the White House.

They've counted most of the votes in Ohio and Bush still has a 2% lead.

sheoque
03-11-2004, 09:45 AM
I feel if Bush gets in it will knock Tory Blurr. We will then vote next spring to keep supporting the double act or not...
I think at this stage Kerry is less than charismatic, the democrats need to ride this term out as the potential for a successful term are small, it is impossible to undo whats ongoing. Whatever the politics the quality of individual lives in the UK and USA is generally good and Iraq is a mess that we are not living with but observing. I say that as someone with military family out there.

Yep, very much looks like Bush won. I am so ****ed, and wish I could leave the country right NOW. They are supposedly recounting the votes in Ohio, but I don't think the results will change. I honestly do not know how i can live here with that disgusting man as my president for four more years. He can't even speak complete sentences, and he's the president. wtf?

It probably won't be official for a bit longer tho as I believe there are still several absentee ballots still be counted in Florida and Ohio. Let's pray for a miracle.

What is it with the American people - why on earth are they voting for a baboon who doesn't know his a%$& from his elbow? They are all mad, mad, I tell you!

What is with the American people is that they still hold religious values close to their hearts. Bush is anti-abortion and anti single sex marriage, which a lot of Americans still agree with. And that is the one reason Kerry didn't do so well. I can guarantee that if Kerry held those values he would be ahead of Bush now, but he doesn't and that is why he lost.

Mmmm, I can see your point Tigger but isn't time that the Americans moved with the times. I find it hard to stomach that they hold religious values such as anti-abortion and anti single sex marriage but accept that they can go gung-ho into another country and rip apart, with little regard for the consequences...................

This isn't a go at go btw, Tigger but at the American people. You only have to take a look around the world, most countries are gutted that Bush is back in power.

'tis true. Religion was a HUGE part of this election. Even though we have a clause in our constitution taht says there will be FULL separation of church and state...and even though the same sex marriage ban goes against that rule...for some reason they are still being passed. America is no FREE country. It drives me nuts everytime the religious groups try to implement their "values" onto the rest of the country...and world for that matter.

I have tried to see the republican view point and why they would support Bush..but the only thing i can see is religion as a factor.

I knew it would be difficult to get rid of Bush because it has historically been very difficult for the incumbent president to be beaten during times of war, and the fact that many of the "moral" issues such as anti-abortion and same sex marriage bans were put into the forefront of the election...which pulled in many religious groups to voting in mass quantities.

However, I feel that the fact the this election and last election were so close shows that the US is a very divided country...and for every person who uses religion as a basis for voting, there is someone who does not feel it is appropriate for religion to play so largely in government. There has been HUGE anti-Bush sentiment even in the US, and I have found it difficult to find many people who actually support Bush, yet somehow he is getting the votes. I think one of the major problems is that people vote solely on party lines, rather than for the president, and republicans are characteristically very loyal to their party...so even people who do not like Bush would still vote for him because he is Republican.
