I'm sorry but surely this is an April Fools Joke.
They joined to fight fires and save people. Recruitment and public awareness is not part of their job description on which they can be disciplined surely??

I read this story before and can't seem to understand why Gay Pride required fireman to distribute the leaflets, why could they not do it themselves?
It's another waste of taxpayers money and could actually cause another stirke!

It's a bit similar to the Celtic goalie who was cautioned not for what he did, but the motivation behind it.
"The nine now accept that they should have performed their duties. Their refusal was a fundamental breach of their core responsibilities." The nine firefighters are based at Cowcaddens and were asked to distribute community safety advice to people attending the Pride Scotia festival in George Square on 24 June.
The fire service spokesman said: "Firefighters cannot, and will not, pick and choose to whom they offer fire safety advice.
"Strathclyde Fire and Rescue has a responsibility to protect every one of the 2.3m people it serves, irrespective of race, religion or sexuality."
Doesn't sound as if their union supported them either.
If the leaflets were on fire prevention, then I don't think they should have refused to hand them out - they can't choose whose lives they save, no-one has that right.
