I don't believe it - the same friend who sent me the link above has just emailed me to say that she might buy one of those things now for her neighbors little girl who fell over yesterday and split her head.

Now, I am a mother, older granted and my son is all grown up but do babies really fall over that much when they are learning to walk?

Do bumps and bruises on their heads cause any harm because I thought (even though babies don't have good memories at that age) but dont they learn from falling over?

Isnt this being over protective or am I not ahead with the times any more?

Hi Fionamummy and welcome to SO.

Are you responding to a thread that was started up by one of OLD members (she gonna keeel me now), or is this just a coincidence?

Hi there - must be coincidence. And here's me thinking that I brought the story first to the forum!

So what else was said about it?

Hi folks
sorry to taking so long to respond. Now, first, what is FM?

And second, called my friend to see where she saw the story and it was in an issue of the National Epilepsy Review. Apparently, the inventor of the Thudguard is developing the hat into one suitable for people with disabilities - without the Micky mouse ears I hope!

My friends son suffers from epilepsy and gets the magazine sent to her every month so I didn't ridicule the head guard further - I am sure you understand.

I dont know whats going on here but this is the first time I have ever used a chat forum before and my son is all grown up so why would I pretend to have a child who has had an injury???

Why would I want to discuss a product on different boards? Its not as if I think its the bees knees and I am sure I'm not the only one with the same log name - it is a big world you know.

If you are someone who works for the thudguard product and are annoyed about what I have been saying about it then tough - I am entitled to my opionion just like everyone else! :ranting:

WARNING: THUDGUARD IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR GOOD PARENT OR CARER SUPERVISION.
If only I could find a product that is a substitute for good parent supervision I'd gladly pay thirty quid for it.

I wonder if they do them in adult sizes?

floopy
04-09-2006, 02:40 PM
Ooh, that second one was a bit harsh!

Invented by a Scottish mom "to help absorb and reduce the impact of head injuries due to a fall or collision"--the kind of falls that, are "very common in even the safest of homes and gardens," and occur because a child is "learning to walk in a world of hard surfaces"--the Thudguard is the pathetic embodiment of a parent's sincere, but utterly misplaced, futile desire to put their kid in a bubble [the not coincidental design motif of the ThudGuard site].
There are two situations where an infant's melon--already an excellently designed, resilient protection device for protecting a kid's brain, thanks be to God and evolution, if you ask me--can benefit from a ThudGuard's extra, extra, extra protection:

Maybe kelly could re-market them as melon protectors, and go spamming all the fruit and veg forums?

If you google thudguard.co.uk this site will come up in the results, so I guess anyone interested in thudguards could check daily to see if it's been mentioned anywhere and follow them up by joining and posting about them.

If you were into that kind of bizarre marketing. :pimp:

Anyway maybe if Haydon deletes the original thread and Floopy starts a new Thudguard one then she'll forget she's already been here and come back - and Quincy won't be far behind!

SF - I think the melon hat should do the trick, I know I would never dare hit my head again if I had to wear a melon on my head when I did.
