must we ALWAYS have the last word?

I find that one of the things that turns threads into hotpots of opinion on the board is people's desire to have the last word on a subject.

In real life we mostly say "I should have said this or that" after the argument is over and people have walked away.

Whereas on here we can come back with our smart alec replies at our leisure.

So how important is it to us to have the last word? why do we sometimes feel the need to state our case over and over again in the same thread?

another question along the same lines.

Why does it sometimes end up that a well populated thread ends up with just two brave souls battling it out to the end when everyone else has given up debating or putting in their two penn'orth?

... am I trying too hard to be debatable?!

Someone has to have it, so it might as well be me. :w00t:

I only bang on about the same thing if the person I'm banging on at doesn't seem to understand what I've said and has circumvented my questions.

I'm a 'last word getter-inner'...I have several references!!

Seriously, kinda along floppy floopy's post...some peeps are just thick and can only see to the end of thier nose and you can't get a plausible thought/declaration/argument...whatever past them. I find I HAVE to beat the dead horse as it was or try to get my point of view at least acknowledged. Guilty til I die or learn better BUT better than being the doormat I've been in the past!!:boxing:

Last word - usually when it's an argument not a discussion, and when getting the last word in is seen to be proof of victory.

SF, is that good, bad, childish, or otherwise?? Sometimes I feel childish for doing it...other times triumphant. My Mother says I would have saved many a beating if I had just kept my last word to myself...I don't think I ever addressed this with my therapist...hmmmmmmm:huh: !! I may have to go jump on Oparah's couch...just kidding.
