View Full Version : Whats the draw?
Figaro 13-01-2007, 02:49 PM This is a serious question that I'd be interested to know the answer to. Why do you visit SO?
Most of the SO regulars log on here most, if not every day, but many of those same people decline to post except on an ocassional basis. I often do this myself - log on, have a nose around the posts or maybe play a game, then log out without posting anything. But, there are now so many people doing that regularly that sometimes, there is hardly anything new to read.
So, what's the draw? Why do you log on here most days - especially if yo have no intention of posting?
I'm not questioning why people don't post. That question has been asked before . What I'd like to know instead is what keeps you logging on to SO on a regular basis? Especially given that many people seem to feel that the forum has lost it edge.
Slipper 13-01-2007, 04:11 PM I don't "BELIEVE" this has come up again.
I like to look in to see what everyone is doing with their slow-cookers, What they are doing tonight, What they are listening to, What they really like and What they really hate.....Occassionally I like to find out what is going on in the Big Brother house.
And YOU??
Patsy 13-01-2007, 04:17 PM I definitely don't post as much these days, so I "BELIEVE" I'm as much to blame as the next person for the current inertia of the board. I think it's like a pub that you used to go to all the time, where you've had a few fall-outs, but some of the old faces still go in there, so you pop in for a chat every now and then. If there's not much going on, you have a swift one and go home. If it's lively, you stick around and have a laugh/row, whatever.
Mostly, I stick around to see if Fee is ever going to say anything funny again.
tigger 13-01-2007, 04:20 PM It depends on my moods I suppose. Some days I'm in the mood to post, others I'm not. I tend to have a lot going on in my life and it takes priority over my thinking, so even though I do log on quite regularly, have a read, I quickly go back to my own life. So it's not really due to who is on here, it's more about me.
Figaro 13-01-2007, 04:58 PM And YOU??
I dunno why I come here. Really, I don't. That's why I asked the question. If I knew why I did, I'd assume that everyone else was logging on for the same reason.
Figaro 13-01-2007, 05:03 PM I think it's like a pub that you used to go to all the time, where you've had a few fall-outs, but some of the old faces still go in there, so you pop in for a chat every now and then. If there's not much going on, you have a swift one and go home. If it's lively, you stick around and have a laugh/row, whatever.
Yeah. Good analogy.
I s'pose thats sort of how I feel.
msgirl 13-01-2007, 05:11 PM I cling to the hope Catherine and Fee will get back on the road to 'addiction' soon, but I have come to accept they are busy with a thing called "LIFE" right now. I really do like interacting with the group on here...I have no one I want to fuss with. It is kinda slow, but I like the 'over the fence' chat value. You lot do really interest me and I have peeps I love to see post, and I feel like I have to 'check in' to see what's being discussed. I have been off a lot this week with subbing for a colleague and then having to let my former employers know they cannot be trashy and underhanded as they attempted earlier this week and then the job interview came up...but after I get back from town from shopping, and get some house duties out of the way, I have to 'catch up' and I believe I have internet access at work, so I may get to keep up better on my lunches and periods of down time. I just love y'all man!! That's all it is...:wink_kiss
Patsy 13-01-2007, 05:12 PM Yeah. Good analogy.
I s'pose thats sort of how I feel.
Ah, get your own opinions, you friggin sheep!
(The occasional bit of arjee barjee is an obvious draw.) :wink2:
survivorfan 13-01-2007, 07:28 PM Force of habit.
Bonsai 13-01-2007, 09:04 PM Force of habit.
I think this is my reason too. For so many years i have logged onto the computer and come in here ....... its hard to change the habit.
Dolores 13-01-2007, 10:09 PM if anyone's interested if you log on as a guest you can see the whole forum these days - so no need to log on and not post!
for myself I'm really not sure why I come here on such a regular basis, but I do, and I'm unfashionable enough to say that I often enjoy myself too!
I still haven't found a better forum on the internet. Although I do post on a few others "specialist" boards but never in the chit chat sections as I really can't be arsed to get to know another bunch of nerds!!
... oh and you lot are still my "dirty little secret - never spoken about in polite society"!!!!
Also I like sending pm's to Maxine and sometimes it's the only way we find out what each other is doing!
Nostalgia too ... The original Survivor programme and the advertising of the ITV website thereon was my first brush with internet-land. I often wonder about those who joined at a time post Survivor though and what their affinity is.
mazwad 13-01-2007, 10:09 PM Habit for me too. I am more of a reader than a poster and also an avid reader of books, there is only so much time in the day and I indulge in a little of everything, even that occasionally.
Taffy 14-01-2007, 12:06 AM As you can see I joined in 2002 after being enthralled by the original Survivor programme.
It’s a small community and you get to know everybody. I am shift work and during the quite hours it is good company.
Why don’t I post more? Not sure really perhaps I just enjoying reading the posts and getting all the latest goss
maxine 14-01-2007, 08:56 AM SO is just part of my daily routine. I have time to read the posts but not always time to make them.
floopy 14-01-2007, 07:32 PM I pop in just in case there's a fight going on.
msgirl 14-01-2007, 11:35 PM I pop in just in case there's a fight going on.
And, of course you'd sit back and never have the thought cross your sweet little mind about getting all wrangled up into one of these 'fights', would you floppy-floopy?? You'd want to only offer a peaceful and constructive way to end said fight and have everyone go off hugging and singing "Kumbayah"!:wink_kiss That's my girl!
Bella 15-01-2007, 06:41 AM Habit too, I am afraid.
floopy 15-01-2007, 07:21 AM You'd want to only offer a peaceful and constructive way to end said fight and have everyone go off hugging and singing "Kumbayah"!:wink_kiss That's my girl!
End the fight? What strange language is this that you speak?
msgirl 15-01-2007, 08:29 AM HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!:assshake:
I guess I was having one of my delusional moments...again.:shocking:
Coastie 15-01-2007, 03:44 PM Much like Dollywood I first ventured onto the internet in search of other Survivor fans...after a brief flit with the official site I found S.O.
I have flirted with other forums (I know...disgraceful isn't it?) but find this one is the best to generally have a good gossip or debate on. I have also come to know a few of you lovely people fairly well over the eons I have been posting here and consider you friends (even if the thought of that makes you want to run and scream and makes me look sad and lonely) and if there's one thing I am it's loyal to my friends...once I have met you I never forget you :)

Haydon 30-01-2007, 03:08 PM Interesting thread - I know it's been discussed before... kinda disappointing in some ways though... I thought it was because of my animal magnatism, humour and charm.
msgirl 30-01-2007, 08:08 PM It is H, really....:ninja:
I thought it was because of my animal magnatism, humour and charm.
Well I obviously hadn't gotten around to my contribution to this thread and this was nearly word for word what my post was going to be. Amazing really....:applause:

Shall I do it or will you Patsy? OK, I'll do it then :wink2:
It wasn't for your spelling, that's for sure :naughty:
Patsy 31-01-2007, 12:41 PM Nice one, Critster.
Does it matter why we love you? We just do, that's all.
