View Full Version : American Idol 2007
Coastie 22-01-2007, 03:18 PM It's back...they ran a four hour show on Friday (repeated Sunday night) and my goodness what a laugh!
The series started in the home town of Prince and they spotted a few potential taps of talent but then it moved on to Seattle...my goodness there are some scarey people in Seattle...really scarey...Simon called it his worst ever city!
It was interesting to see a former Brit boy bander get through though...he's from Manchester and used to be part of a group called North and South or something like that. Very cute...I get a bit confused though as I am sure our upper age limit was always 24 (in Pop Idol)...over there it's 28! I'd still be too old though...ho well.
My ribs are finally back from full blown ping from laughing position and I am looking forward to next time! :good:
Mods: Is it possible for American Idol to get into the spot light section of the board?
Tigereye 23-01-2007, 10:12 AM This was hilarious TV - a real antidote to BB. Complete loonies auditioning for an increasingly incredulous panel - especially Simon - loved it. Prefer this part of the series to the actual competition to be honest - very funny.
Patsy 23-01-2007, 10:56 AM Saw a bit of the Seattle one. The ginger guy who likened himself to Freddie Mercury.
Coastie 23-01-2007, 12:11 PM Saw a bit of the Seattle one. The ginger guy who likened himself to Freddie Mercury.
I sent him your address and phone number Pats...hope that was ok!
TE - It's the expressions Simon pulls sometimes...they say it all!
Coastie 31-01-2007, 08:14 AM Sundance from NY was very, very good...dispite the name! :good:
He is the first one to really stand out for me so far it has to be said...still many more auditionees to come!
Memphis was very strange though.
Coastie 02-02-2007, 07:46 PM It's on now freeview ch6...aka ITV 2!:applause:
I'm taping it!
Coastie 04-02-2007, 03:13 AM Oh my goodness I nearly pinged a rib when the big black woman tried to woo Simon in L.A. The look on his face and the fact the other judges were encouraging it!
and what of the guy who used Paula and Randy's guide to becoming a star...and was terrible...Oh how Simon wanted to milk that one! :assshake:
Other than the big guy, Sundance (if only for the name) from NY there really isn't any one particularly memorable for me yet.
Texas next week! Could be up for a bit of the old country.
IsLe Of WeAtHeR 09-02-2007, 02:51 PM Its a great show and why they dont bin this on ITV 1 Saturdays is beyond me? - I love randy and Paula and the juxtaposition of their USA values with Simons coldness is top viewing.
Coastie 13-02-2007, 02:00 PM Bailey Brown a name to watch...the 16 year old not quite so country girl!
I was in hysterics when they showed the montage of those who picked the wrong door...One can only wonder why they don't just stick a sign on the right door!
Next or rather this week is the first of the shows from Hollywood...they have to cut the numbers to the last 24! Eeek...there seems to be quite a few talented peeps out there this year and I'll be interested to see how a couple I have spotted fair in the next stage!:good:
Coastie 17-02-2007, 05:02 PM oOOoo...tehy're really tighetening the screws now...
I felt a bit sorry for Baily Brown...she got stuck with two best mates and well...they took so long deciding what to sing etc and she was pretty well shut out and ended up having to asing a song that didn't really suit her...gla dthe blonde freinds gone though...what a waste of space and air...IMO!
I watched it to the last 40 or so last night and have the final 24 to see tonight...very exciting and even though there's only a few of my faves left I hope at least one gets through!:)
Coastie 24-02-2007, 10:58 AM The boys:
Chris - Justin Timerlake - is rather cute...like him for totty reasons and his voice isn't too bad!
Brandon - Beat box boy - is one of my faves at the moment mainly because he sung a current song!
Sanjay - boring!
Big Chris - huge hair...kinda pre adrenaline junkie Jack Osbourne - has a good voice when he sings the right songs but seems a little to full of himself for my liking.
Sundance - let me down...get back to the blues man!
Opening act - J... - boring...but kinda cute!
have the rest on tape!
Coastie 24-02-2007, 10:59 AM This is clearly becoming a self indulgent thread...although I thought with Cat Deely co=hosting more of the guys might be watching!
IsLe Of WeAtHeR 24-02-2007, 12:31 PM This is clearly becoming a self indulgent thread...although I thought with Cat Deely co=hosting more of the guys might be watching!
she is not co-hosting so much as hanging about pretending to be Ryan Seacrest. What the heck is she up to?
And memo to cat: If you are already about 5 foot 11 and are a girl then do not wear high heels or you just look wrong standing next to people - like a giraffe ar a monkey's tea- party.
all that said, it still would.
Patsy 24-02-2007, 05:37 PM I thought they were all rather weak and no-one really stood out for me, but it's early days. I thought the black backing singer who did Michael Jackson had the best voice on the night. Chris Sligh I thought did a really good job and I don't know why Simon had such a problem with him. There's obviously some needle between Simon and Seacrest, which makes me wonder why Simon tolerates it. Isn't the show his baby?
Didn't see the girls - will try and watch tomorrow night.
Tigereye 26-02-2007, 09:13 AM The girls were much better than the boys and really went for it.
We've eliminated two boys and two girls now, so I think we're ahead of ITV here in Ireland so I don't want to say too much in case it's a spoiler.
The black girl who did backing vocals until now was great.:applause:Real sparkle to her and great vocal range, and the big black girl [Latica or summat} blew me away.....A different league, as Simon said.
Patsy 26-02-2007, 09:40 AM Agree, H. The boys seem very mediocre in comparison with the girls.
Fancy Ireland being ahead of the UK in something......... :wink2: (don't mention the rugby!!)
Tigereye 26-02-2007, 02:23 PM Rugby Rugby Rugby Rugby Rugby
[still getting over the celebrations:bored: ]
oh and by the way miss we're ahead of youze with ER, 24, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty and every series of Survivor.... so nyaah.
rugby rugby rugby.......
Coastie 26-02-2007, 07:07 PM If ya weren't so wonderful I could go off you TE
The girls did indeed blow the guys out of the water....esspecially, as TE has already said the two black girls...backing vocalist (lovely persona aswell) and Laticia...woooweee amazing!
I think the right four went...although I was hoping that one of the other girls was booted out and also Sanjay...I find him annoying! :bored:
We have had the results show...ITV2 shows them all back to back on Friday nights at 2030hrs!
Patsy 27-02-2007, 08:25 AM Who was booted out then? And when was it aired, Coaster?
Coastie 27-02-2007, 09:15 PM Friday nights 2030 ITV2 - they show both boys and girls and then the results show back to back....4hrs of Pop Idol! I tape it and watch it at a more sensible hour.
I can't remember the names of those voted off cos I is a muppet...sorry...but they were definately from the weaker bunch!
Patsy 27-02-2007, 09:37 PM S'ok, I saw it tonight thanks Coaster. The right ones went on the night. Sanjaya and Alaina next week, I expect.
Coastie 28-02-2007, 06:20 AM I think its Sanjaya's hair style that makes me dislike him more than anything...it annoys me! :bag: He's not the best singer either!
Hopefully Sundance will get back to singing the blues this week!
Patsy 28-02-2007, 09:38 AM Sanjaya should forthwith be known as Mowgli.
Coastie 04-03-2007, 07:28 AM Sanjaya should forthwith be known as Mowgli.
LMAO...
I am taping the whole lot today to watch when I have time as it clashed with the new series of Without a Trace and a girl has her priorites!
Tigereye 05-03-2007, 02:48 PM oh my yes - give me LaPaglia over Seacrest anytime!
Can't believe Mowgli is still there!!:sleepy:
Patsy 05-03-2007, 03:48 PM Who went this week then? I missed the results.
Coastie 05-03-2007, 06:06 PM :mad2: Not a happy bunny :mad2:
I set the video up and my freeview box to record the show and ended up with four hours of BBC4...two of which were of a red screen telling me that the shows didn't start for another two hours! :mad2:
Not that I watched the red screen for two hours mind...
TE...I wanted to good rep you for your taste in men but I haven't spread myself around enough...
Pats...I would like to rep you to as Mowgli is such a fab name for Shangrela boring blokey!
Patsy 05-03-2007, 08:58 PM Feel free, little tug boat. I can wait.
Coastie 06-03-2007, 07:03 PM I managed to catch half the re-run this evening (all the guys a few of the girls) before work dragged me away...
Sundance is back on form...woooo
Chris 'Afro' Sligh is actually starting to creep me out a bit...
Chris 'CUTE' didn't do it for me this week although the judges liked him...
Robert Downey Jnr guy was boring...
AJ...needed to be in drag to really pull that performance off IMO
Mowgli...I went and ironed my shirt...boooooooring!
Phil 'Baldy'...I like him as a person more than a performer...
Beat box boy...Love him but he really isn't the best singer...
Girls:
Melinda Doolittle...solid performance...like her!
Latisha...latishka? ... I enjoy her perfromances
Red Head...she should sing Pink!
Can't remember anything about the other girl I saw though other than that she wore a blue dress and was incredibly dull!
Patsy 07-03-2007, 08:38 AM Pink - yes, that would suit her, the Liza Tarbuck looky likey.
I liked Anthony (Robert Downey jr) and don't think he deserved to go this week. Didn't like AJ much.
How come AJ and Hayley were allowed to sing the same song? The Sheryl Crowe wannabe's face was a picture when she was chucked out, seeing as she had been shown only a few minutes previously, talking to Cat, saying she didn't think she would be going home. Sucker! She was so out of tune last week and had a real attitude on her. As did Antonella - I hope she goes next week.
I like Phil (bald guy's) voice. I like both Chrises. I don't like the beat boxer very much. I think Brandon showed promise, but isn't coming up with the goods.
Melinda (henceforth to be known as Eliza) and Lekisha are the best girls, followed by the girl with short hair (far too Beyonce-like this week), then Jordan (strong for a young girl), then the one with the corkscrew hair. The rest are very forgettable.
What was with Ryan, calling everyone "darrrrling" this week?
Coastie 07-03-2007, 07:05 PM Anyone else find Ryan extremely annoying on the whole?
Also...I think we could start a new drinking game...drink two fingers for every analogy Cat comes up with to describe how the contestant must have felt...we'd be bladdered in less than 30mins!
Oh glad Hayley went...haven't liked her since the start and as for Antonella...oh yes what an easily dislikeable character she is!
Patsy 08-03-2007, 10:17 AM You mean Antonella "well, you were wrong about Jennifer Hudson"?
Talk about delusional.
Coastie 04-04-2007, 10:54 AM Well Afro Chris has gone then...not surprised though...his last performance sucked big time...
i am still routing for Chris (cute) & Latisha. Melinda is just a little strange to look at....her head does not go with her body...she has no neck...great voice though!
Beat box boy got all the praise this week but I didn't see anything that majorly exciting but still like him.
What the heck is Mowgli still doing on the show... He is appaulling!
Patsy 04-04-2007, 11:13 AM Welcome back, little tug boat!
Yep, Mowgli's still there, despite someone in Amercia apparently going on hunger strike until he's eliminated.
I can't see what all the fuss is with Blake. Melinda's lack of neck is certainly a worry, but she is by far and away the best, but that doesn't mean she's an idol. Jordin was really good this week and she's my current tip for the top.
~ils~ 04-04-2007, 11:31 AM Melinda does look a little strange, but has fantastic voice, as does LaKisha.
But if you are looking for an idol (voice, looks, personality, sex appeal etc) I would choose Gina or Jordin, as none of the boys stick out for me this year.
Coastie 04-04-2007, 12:45 PM Gina...is she the one with the huge lips or the snooty one? Really don't like either of them on the personality front it has to be said!
~ils~ 04-04-2007, 01:41 PM Gina...is she the one with the huge lips or the snooty one? Really don't like either of them on the personality front it has to be said!
This one is Gina

Coastie 04-04-2007, 02:43 PM Oh...Gina...the other one...gosh how could I forget her she's fab...reminds me of Pink!
Yes I would like to se her go far...great voice!
Who's the one with the big lips...Jordin...and who's the snooty one?
~ils~ 04-04-2007, 03:16 PM Oh...Gina...the other one...gosh how could I forget her she's fab...reminds me of Pink!
Yes I would like to se her go far...great voice!
That's who she reminds me of too and I am a big Pink fan
Who's the one with the big lips...Jordin...and who's the snooty one
I'm not sure which ones you mean but
This is Jordin
http://www.americanidol.com/media/contestants/season6/t/jordin_sparks.jpg
& this is Haley
http://www.americanidol.com/media/contestants/season6/t/haley_scarnato.jpg
Patsy 04-04-2007, 03:17 PM I think by "the snooty one" you mean Hayley. Very pretty and lovely figure, but very forgettable.
Gina is good, but not different enough to win, imo.
Coastie 04-04-2007, 03:20 PM Oh yes...Jordin big lips and Haley Snooty...not keen on either of those two!
I will stand by Lakisha for the girls and Chris for the boys though...but Gina is definately in the running!
SSFSurvivor 10-04-2007, 08:18 PM Personally I hate the show, its becoming nothing but a joke
Patsy 11-04-2007, 04:35 PM Not to worry, SSFS, plenty of other things to watch and so little time! :nerd:
Coastie 25-04-2007, 04:29 AM Can I just share my joy at finally witnessing the departure of Mowgli...first Little Miss Snooty now Mowgli...I am soooo happy! :w00t:
