Ahhh, Saddam's secret weapon of mass destruction, as my late dad used to call it. He'd regularly rant, "weapons of mass destruction, my ****! All he needs is the wherewithall to send us an inch of snow and the entire UK will grind to a standstill!!!" (and no, he wasnt named Jim Royle  )

Well, Northern Mississippi is in for a snow/ice storm due to start in about 5-6 hours. I have to get up about 4.00 am to call the police and county agent, etc., to see if it's possible to get to work. Then I have to call the radio station here and the Memphis/Tupelo tv channels to let people know. Hopefully after all of that, I WILL get to stay home and adore the snow from the warmth of the house!!:sun:

I have just come back from a few days in the Scottish Highlands, in one of the most famous ski resorts actually. Dead as a dodo, not enough snow to make a snowball, in fact T shirts were more the order of the day, the weather was fantastic - blue skies, cloudless, and balmy every day.

Not a lot of dosh being made by the ski trade tho!

No snow here either. I keep thinking the weather men have it wrong.

It's been dry, mild and sunny for a few days once 10am in the morning has gone. Some showers overnight mean the ground is damp or icy in places. But nothing to worry about.

I think its on its way !!

This from MetCheck today, for Wednesday and Thursday :nerd: :-

Forecasters Warning -- Sleet, Snow & Ice --

Areas Affected: England & Wales

This is an update to the earlier issued Severe Weather Watch.

Confidence is growing for a significant spell of snow across England and Wales especially during the course of Thursday. While there remains uncertainties, primarily because of what is a very complex meteorological event, confidence is now high enough to increase the Weather Watch to an Advanced Weather Warning.

An approaching low pressure and its associated surface frontal zones will approach England and Wales from the West - Southwest during the early hours of Thursday. This area of sleet and snow will then progress Northwards during the day bringing some prolonged and significant snow anywhere from the M4 corridor Northwards especially. The Northern extent of where the snow will progress to still has some uncertainty surrounding it, but at the moment it would seem as though it will reach Southern parts of Northern England.

Exact amounts of snow still remain hard to comment on and further information over the coming days is certainly needed but there is scope for several centimeters of snow, especially over higher ground. Winds will also be on the increase with a moderate to strong Southeasterly wind developing bringing the risk of drifting snow, especially over high ground.

Further updates to follow...

I hope it holds off as we have relatives travelling from Wales and East Sussex on thursday morning for MIL's funeral.

On a personal level I love snow and have waited years to have a snowball fight with my grandchildren. The only time we have had any they were at school and it melted before the came home.

We had some snow yesterday for about an hour. Its still lying on the ground as its not been warm enough to melt it, and after the heavy frost last night its a little tricky on the roads this morning.

Mr. B normally has Thursdays off work, and he would of loves to take the dogs out in the snow .... but he has to try and get into Brentwood tomorrow as he has a driving test. The trouble is, if the examiners even sniff snow in the air they cancel ... so he could go all that way for nothing !!

The first snow arrived in the early hours of yesterday morning. Most of it has gone but there are some serious icy patches on the paths and roads. More snow is expected today thursday but by late afternoon it is moving South and Southwest.

The worst part is the cold and the havoc it causes for commuters getting to work.

Falling quite heavily here in the Dublin Mountains, but slushy underfoot instead of nice and crispy [I'd love a crunchie].

Shropshire? I'd always seen you as Ugg boots and Islington:w00t:

Instead you're huddled up in some country cottage warding off the snow.

Where did Fee get that photo of me from?

We moved house in the autumn (and jobs), and Im now in sunny Bridgnorth, Shroppers..... and yes Patsy I'd be happy to take your parents a food parcel if need be, especially as everyone seems to be treating 3 to 4 inches of snow as some sort of nuclear winter...

How weird, we're usually the first to get any sign of snow but up here in the central belt of Scotland we've not had any of the white stuff yet!
