Easter is here next weekend ..... so does everyone buy into this with eggs and so on, or do you view it with the same disregard that some did with mothers day ? Do you instead go to church ?

I have to admit that i love Easter - cos i get chocolate :w00t: Im not religious so for me it is all about calories. My parents even now buy me and Mr.B choccie. They gave it to Mr.B yesterday as they might not see him again before the holidays. I got a massive box of chocolates and a small easter egg. Mr.B got a small easter egg, a slab of Cadburys and a box of Maltesers. I cant wait to get stuck in :bag:

I only buy for my sisters kids as they are the only children on my side of the family, which is a small side. So i got them a box of Miniture Hero's each. On Mr.Bs side there is about 16 kids ..... and i cant afford to buy them all something !! They get spoilt anyway and have tonnes of eggs each.

I can never remember with Easter (christmas much bigger for us)... In our close family there's my mam's side (Mam, Dad, Me and brother)... my mam's sisters side (aunt, uncle and 2 cousins) and then my grandparents... so 10 of us in total. (How very perfect we sound!)

Think we all go to my grandparents for a bit but then we eat a meal (Sunday dinner) seperately.

Not had an easter egg for years, think we used to just get a fiver instead and spend it on what we wanted, but that probably stopped a while ago! So think it's just like a bank holiday to us now...

I make easter egg nests withthe grandkids using choccy and shredded wheat then fill them with mini eggs. They also get a fiver each although it would be cheaper to buy an egg each for a couple of quid.

Something for the boys...msboy #1 will get $$ and fave chocs, msboy #2 will get $$ or a movie/toy, and fave chocs. I don't boil and color eggs...:bag:! The daycare is having an Egg Hunt this coming Thursday b/c we get off for Good Friday!!:yahoo:

my son said the other day that instead of getting him an easter egg I could get him the new James Bond dvd - to be honest until he mentioned it I hadn't even thought of getting him anything. Luckily I managed to get an easter egg for £1 and the James Bond dvd for £7 in Asda's ... so he's got lucky!

Mainly I look forward to the long weekend off work!

I like Easter. It's four straight days off work.

I just buy 2 Easter egss for my god daughters they rest of the family are all grown up. Mr SB has decided he doesn`t want an egg this year and would rather just have some of his fave chocs.

This Easter he is also working so it will just be another day here, although if he was off I would no doubt do a roast dinner with all the trimmings

I'm not particularly religious but to me Easter is THE Christian event. It should be a period of reverence, reflection and celebration.

I like the tone set within the Orthodox/Eastern church and it's followers. The sequence of services and interaction with the church and its community are, to me, in tune with the meaning.

Fasting, offerings, reflection, celebration or feasting. The symbolism of the extinguishing of all light and the replenishment of light coming from eternal flame on the alter and passed through out the congregation or community prior to the Divine Liturgy followed by celebration.

My kids are Greek Orthodox by maternal path and they have the same attitude to Easter. Whilst they do not go to the lengths of fasting fully, they do tend to 'give something up' of Easter. They enjoy the celebration and understand the significance.

We live in a society that worships the body and material possessions (vanity, hedonism, and materialism) and cares next to nothing for the soul.

As our Lord once said, "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (St. Matthew 16:26).


Further to that, living in North London at Easter they have a feeling of community as well which the Christmas period is becoming less so and more about consumerism.

That art gallery shock outrage hoo-hah makes me think Thornton's should sell chocolate Jesuses so people can pig out without feeling guilty they don't go to church.

I suppose on the positive side Easter in the UK is good for the diet industry in the weeks that follow especially when people start thinking about what they'll look like on the beach this summer.

This year I will probably will buy at least 2 Easter Eggs.

I always get one for my 8 year old nephew, but this year I'm going to get one for my Dad too. He's developed a real taste for dark chocolate.

I'm not bothered about getting eggs myself. The last one I had got thrown away 3 years later unopened.

I read that as Thrown Up three weeks later unopened.

I enjoy the Easter celebrations as it is a big thing in the Christian calender. Bigger than Christmas in many respects. Yes JC was born on Christmas day but it was at Easter that he really fullfilled his purpose and showed the world what he was all about.

The Easter egg issue is now seen as a representation of new birth...being born again so I do partake in the ritual of giving a receiving eggs although I do by the kids small books and things aswell that tell of the true meaning of the celebration and the egg!
