so will anyone (besides Secrets!) be betting on the Grand National today and if you do who will you bet on?
I want to put a bet on Longshanks but I can't be bothered to put any make up on and a clean tee shirt on to go down the bookies!!! I know what high standards betting shops have for their clientele!! ... in fact i might just add a fag, a cloth cap and get my finger nails dirty then I'd mingle in with the other punters!!! (no offence to bookie punters intended ... well just a little!!).

I've never enjoyed the Grand National...two many horses have died over the years...the one and only time I did put a bet on was when work decided to put a bet each on a different horse...my fell at a fence, broke it's neck and died.
No I shall be paying no interest to the race this year or ever again.

No. I'm never organised enough to remember it's on and get down to the bookies in time. Plus we don't get a daily paper these days so I don't know the riders and runners. Although I could do it online I guess.
My mother always bets on the Grand National. She usually chooses about 4 horses and places small each way bets. Usually one of them gets into the top 3 finishers. I don't know how she does it.
Ps - Dol - I changed your smilie for you.

The Grand National is the only time I ever gamble (except for when we go to the dogs and when I went racing at Newmarket and Dubai).
So, yeah I put a few squiddles on a couple of nags.
I bet on "Simon" ('cos thats my Brother-in-Laws name) and Joe's Edge ('cos that my Uncles name). I am one of those people who bet on the name of the horse rather than the form/trainer/Jockey etc. - life's too short to spend that much time on a bet.
I also got Celtic something or other in the work sweepstake.
I lost £42.
The Celtic horse fell at the 1st fence. Joe's Edge was a donkey. Simon almost won - which would've meant I'dve won if he hadn't lost his jockey at the last fence. Moron.
Mr Figgs however did win, but not on his actual bookie bets. He won the GN sweepstake on some forum that he belongs to, and the prize is dinner at a restaurant of our choice. So, that's a result!

gosh - what forum is that Figs? sounds better than this one - the best you could expect on here is good rep for a win? or bad rep if the person is particularly small minded!!! (moi? ... non!?)

Well, thats totally another story.
Remember the other day I said that we weren't likely to be able to stretch to a holiday....well, next month we are going on one!
Mr Figgs mate at work has a villa in Turkey (in Chalis Beach, near Fethiye) and has a week free in the middle of next month. So, for the cost of the maintenance charge (£30) he said we could have it. So, as a surprise, Mr Figgs booked the flights and told me last night that we are agoing to Turkey next month. Mr Figgs booked this 6 weeks ago, the little love!
Chalis Beach is apparently full of British ex-pats, and they have a local forum for local people (very "Little Britain") that he has joined.
Anyway, they did the GN sweepstake, and the prize was a dinner for 2 in Chalis Beach or Fethiye at a restaurant of choice. Mr Figgs won, so one night on our holiday we will eat courtesty of the forum members.

Oh you will be popular
Expats hate people who 'drop in from 40,000 feet' and snatch the best fruits..
Don't plan on many invites now
!!
I put a tenner on the "dead cert to win" (according the newspapers) and it fell at the first fence...
Such a schoolboy error. Won't be making it again.
