tigger 19-04-2007, 09:23 AM King James version.
Dolores 19-04-2007, 08:48 PM I've got a blue one - think it's the Good News bible. I've got a children's version aswell. I'm not particularly religious but a good few years ago after a traumatic time in my life I have to say it helped me a bit ... but I haven't picked it up for many many years now.
why do you ask, IoW?
Patsy 19-04-2007, 08:59 PM I have an illustrated children's bible. I read it a lot as a kid. Well, when I say "read", I used to look at all the lovely pictures.
Fee For All 19-04-2007, 09:03 PM I currently have a Gideon beside my bed. But then, I also have some dodgy toiletries and a shower cap in the bathroom.:wink2:

ahh the Gideon Bible - surely the most useful bible there is.
I well remember a particuarly rough sea crossing on the Zeebrugge ferry many years ago when the whole family and the dog (dont ask how he managed to get smugged aboard instead of going below in a cage like the other dogs!) had to share a single cabin - very cosy! Anyhoo the cupboard door was rattling and banging so my dad wedged the gideon bible to stop it slamming so we could all get to sleep, we still smile ruefully at each other everytime we see a gideon bible - which is, actually, almost never!
msgirl 19-04-2007, 10:51 PM One of my Lead Team Group ladies, her husband is in the Gideon Society and they promote to pass out Gideon Bibles and take up $$ for the cause...
Coastie 21-04-2007, 04:54 PM I have the 'New Living Bible' in pocket form for travelling... used to have an NIV...I also have 'The Answer' an easy read version of the bible (although laid out in the same way as a regular bible) with quotations from inspirational people and study guides included...my main study bible...not to be confused with the kinda modern format that is 'The Message' which I never really got on with. I also have a pocket version of the NIV New Testements and Psalms.
Fee For All 21-04-2007, 05:21 PM I prefer The Lonely Planet for travelling. The accommodation listed in the bible is a bit out of date.

survivorfan 22-04-2007, 08:22 AM Can I ask I O W why this is of particular interest, and is there any significance in having a certain version of the Bible?
Three childrens illustrated ones(christening presents for the kids) and a green one.
Minklemar 22-04-2007, 07:12 PM I've just has a count up and I've got 10 bibles. The bible I use the most is the NIV, but I also have:
Another NIV I was given when I attended an Alpha course
Good News (x3 - one I bought when I used to attend Church years ago, one was a wedding gift from my Church, the other was given to me when I first became a christian)
Revised English Version (with Apocrypha) - I got this one because it was a version I didn't have and I also wanted an apocrypha.
King James x2 - both really old ones that I bought in second hand bookshops
Amplified Bible - given to me by a friend earlier this month
The Message - I got this because I strugled with the old testament and I thought it might be easier to read in the Message
I have the NIV bible in audio on my Ipod too.

There is not but there is a huge variety of versions today unlike say just 30 years or so ago. I collect Bibles and i am interested to see who, amongst Christians, use what. All English Bibles are translations, some are literal ((KJV, ESV, Nasb) and some are much more idiomatic (CEV, GNB, The Message). Some plough the middle ground like the NIV.
The King James Bible was the standard for 300 years but although beautiful is written in Elizabethan English and can be impenetrable to some. The Good News Bible and the Contemporary English Version help to use modern English and so on.
It is worth owning one just for the literary standpoint.

Yeah but follow them closely enough you can build a tabanacle (spell check) and then well...a whole village...a town...a city...the world! :w00t:
Fee For All 26-04-2007, 08:14 PM I'll stick to a dictionary. I don't need another tabernacle.:pimp:
