It's 2am, I'm tired and p****d off.

My next-door neighbours (also students) are having a party (AGAIN!).

Anyone got any tips on how to deal with it? It's getting to the stage of every other week-end.

I have a construction site right next to my bedroom window (I can reach out and touch the columns) and they are currently working 24/7 banging, clattering and shouting. Thats when they are not pouring concrete through the night.

I've tried many things from being polite to including going down and having 'words'

I just turn the Air con on to high and slide under the duvet...

Ear plugs take the edge off Mars...:good:

I have a teenager living next door who parties when her parents are away...also I have to sleep during the day at times and everyone in the street takes up DIY and loud music as a hobby...ear plugs are my friend...they mute the noise to a level just bareable to allow sleep to come.

Gatecrash and join in?

My god - I was in a bad mood last night!

The party went on til 7am, which was nice. The particular highlight for me was The Beach Boys at 6 in the morning.

Slipper, that sounds like a nightmare! Is there much longer to go?

The problem with ear plugs is that I need an alarm to wake me up, otherwise I WILL sleep right through til 2 or 3, so that's a no go I'm afraid.

And I would gatecrash, if I didn't hate them all with a passion. :)

the evil cow in me would wait till it all died down, give it an hour or so for them to get down for some kip, then put on The Prodigy or Black Sabbath really loud and nip out for a walk for a bit.......:w00t:

A friend of mine had noisy neighbours who kept her awake at weekends. She works shifts so what she would do during the nights she was working would be to put her phone on the stairs cos that was nearest point to the adjoining wall between the houses and intermittently call herself during the night from work and let it ring and ring and ring!

OK it's not what you would call direct action ... but it helped her!!

Earplugs + alarm clock designed to wake deaf people.

Well little sleep last night coz the bu@@ers were hammering shuttering and throwing acros and scaffolding around all night

I didn't have the A/C on but I doubt that would have had an effect last night.

At the weekend I slept on a deserted beach and the silence was as beautiful as the stars above... roll on this Friday for a lie-in

Had you been out on the lash the night before!?

Cheek of it.

No, it was sort of planned. We drove across the country, then thro' a salt plain desert spotting Ostriches and large lizard things along the way to a beach where us and one other group miles away were the only people on it.

Spent the day sunning it and picnicing and come evening lit a fire and slept out on sun loungers under the stars.

Absolute silence and woke up with the sun rise at 5ish, rolled back under duvet and went back to sleep to the sound of birds cheeping (something you do not get in the town here) waking up again at 9ish with the heat.

Happy as Larry !!!!!!!!!

This weekend will not be so cultured as its the All Asian Ladies 7's rugby tournament. Expect damage!

Hello Mars,

Excessive noise is classed as a nuisance.

You could try the polite route and suggest they turn the noise down after 11 pm. Should they fail record the noise from inside your home noting the date and time of the recording. Take a second recording and on another occassion knock again to try the polite route. Insisting they turn the noise down after 11pm.

Should your neighbours fail to do something after asking twice you could try your local authority and question noise abatement. What can they do to stop it? Will it cost you anything to stop it? You have some recordings would they like to listen to it?

Do you have the support of other neighbours, other neighbours who may have recordings or at least noted down the times and dates of disturbing noise?

In my area I am surrounded by a mix of residents about a third of which are students. But they only party three times yearly. Christmas, New year and Graduation. Its not a problem.

Your situation sounds like its every week, and I personally think this is unreasonable.

Ok. Can you put the money in my account tomorrow please?

And Mo, all neighbours are students, so i don't think many of them are that bothered to be honest. And it's well known in the area that the police/council aren't brilliant when it comes to matters like this, so I'm not sure that that's the best route to go down.

Thanks anyway though!

Hello Mars,

Sounds like a right sticky wicket. There's ony one course of action left and that means you risk being in trouble yourself. That is to play Wagners operas at 1 am in the morning to combat the noise from the parties and pop music blasting. :ranting: :ranting:

Lost out as to what to think your real next course of action should be.

Does SO have a heavy mob willing to duff people or machines up?:naughty: :naughty: :naughty:
