View Full Version : Men and Their Toys
Seabreeze 24-04-2007, 08:30 AM Not far from where I live there is a small boating lake were as children we would take our yachts down and sail them from one side to another. Over the years the children have lost interest but the men have now taken over with the remote control boats they have built themselves. These range from big liners, submarines, small speedboats, tug boats etc. The other day I was down there and I saw the cutest thing on the water but I will admit to it taking me a moment or 2 before I realised that it was also remote control

I didn`t know how to use the zoom on this camera but as you can see the mother swan has 4 little babies trailing behind her
survivorfan 24-04-2007, 08:58 AM I didn`t know how to use the zoom on this camera
you should get a man to show you
Slipper 24-04-2007, 09:01 AM And it's a duck not a swan
but otherwise a good thread
Seabreeze 24-04-2007, 09:11 AM Actually it was a goose
Patsy 24-04-2007, 12:47 PM What was its name?
Groucho 24-04-2007, 01:55 PM Actually it was a goose
Let me take a gander........
:bag:
Haydon 24-04-2007, 02:46 PM Yeah good thread. Remote control boats - cool! I saw this huge remote controlled speed boat at the local county show once. It was zooming around and causing a huge wave to soak spectators. R/c boats/cars - something that I think I might do when I retire. :ninja:
Did you find out who the ducks belonged to? Seems a bit of an odd thing for a bloke to take down the local boating pool.
odd thing for a bloke[/I]to take down the local boating pool.
And your point would be??

They belong to the bloke in the grey jumper with the captains hat on you can see with the remote control in his hand. He also had about 4 other large boats with him
mazwad 24-04-2007, 06:54 PM My brothers started out with rc boats and then progressed to planes. It is now a bit of an obsession with them they have sheds and lofts full of them.
Mr M's toys are tools, even if he doesn't know when he will ever use them. Fortunately he has a very big shed, although maybe that is the problem he feels he has to fill it.

Well we would if you'd zoomed in a bit ! :wallbash:
I had a mate who was building a r/c harrier jump jet once c/w vertical(ish) take off
(I say jet but they were ducted fans)
(I say mate but note past tense)

that goose looks ill doesn't it, must be some kind of mallardy.
Haydon 25-04-2007, 12:25 PM And your point would be??
 Seems a tad aggressive, but anyway...
My point being that I thought it seemed a strange thing for a grown man to take to the local boating pool.
I could understand a kid building and sailing (if you can sail a duck) r/c ducks, just not an adult.
Northern angel 25-04-2007, 02:19 PM This sounds like great fun for a sunny Sunday afternoon. Not as exhilarating as kite flying. But still fun. Its not just the men who take boats to the lake women do also.

msgirl 25-04-2007, 08:48 PM sf are you daring to suggest that Mo, our MO, might know someone 'unusual'?? tsk, tsk!
Northern angel 26-04-2007, 02:41 PM Well hello survivorfan and msgirl, you know me.
I'm the one that bought a remote control boat to take to the pond and Mr M and I have dual controls on it.
The pair of us are worse than the children in our respective families.

Mine will be shrinking in the coming year... A legend shall pass on...
Normal1 08-05-2007, 07:08 PM Those boaty dads have got way too much time on their hands. Sort of place that - when I was a kid - I'd have been with my catapult, pinging marbles at those little toys boats, trying to sink 'em.
I'd have prefered a gattling gun, but they were not easilly available when I worra lad.
Fee For All 08-05-2007, 08:28 PM Were they all being used at the Somme?
Slipper 09-05-2007, 04:25 AM Ouch.............!
