Apparently, your metabolic rate changes as you get older. This theory supports the idea that people are destined to get fatter as they age.
Do you accept this as fact?

Do you accept this as fact? Fee For All 04-05-2007, 12:54 AM Sadly, yes. Seabreeze 04-05-2007, 07:00 AM Yes, It`s been proved that an 18 year old, sitting down, will burn more calories than a 70 year old walking round. I am not happy about this fact :( Patsy 04-05-2007, 08:14 AM Yes, I have definitely noticed the distance since I entered my 30s. :bag: Fee For All 04-05-2007, 08:35 AM No! You mean I have worse to look forward to? mikado 04-05-2007, 11:10 AM Apparently, your metabolic rate changes as you get older. This theory supports the idea that people are destined to get fatter as they age. Do you accept this as fact? Hmmm - so how come toddlers are so chubby? :) Apparently metabolic rate also changes with muscle mass, so one reason for older people to have a lower MR might be just that they're less active, and hence have less muscle. There certainly seem to be plenty of skinny old people around. There's hope for us yet! Figaro 04-05-2007, 11:45 AM Interesting. Y'see I don't agree that people are destined to get fatter as they age. I can't argue with the fact that metabolism is designed to slow as you get older (unfortunately, its scientific fact) - what I do disagree with is the idea that there is nothing you can do about it, although I would have agree with that statement a year ago. In recent months I have managed to change my metabolism, and it is as efficient now as it was when I was in my twenties. Frankly, I am astounded. I'm 10lbs lighter than I was 3 months ago and I've also lost any trace of cellulite I had. And I wasn't even trying to lose weight! Groucho 04-05-2007, 11:58 AM In recent months I have managed to change my metabolism How did you do that then? Fee For All 04-05-2007, 12:09 PM What? Since you came back here? You're sucking the rest of us dry, aren't you? I want my metabolism back  Figaro 04-05-2007, 12:12 PM How did you do that then? By eating about 5 times a day. mikado 04-05-2007, 12:17 PM Does that mean that as you get older you need to eat more and more rapidly? By the time we're all ninety we'll need to be grazing nonstop in order to keep our supermodel figures :) Figaro 04-05-2007, 12:39 PM Does that mean that as you get older you need to eat more and more rapidly? By the time we're all ninety we'll need to be grazing nonstop in order to keep our supermodel figures :) No, not at all. You just need to eat enough to keep your metabolic rate chugging away efficiently. This is done by eating on a regular basis - about every three hours during the course of a day. Obviously what you eat matters - the objective is to eat food which burns slowly and keeps the metabolism working until you next eat, thereby making it more efficient. Its not magic. Any nutritionist would tell you the same. Patsy 04-05-2007, 12:58 PM Interesting. Take us through a typical day, Figs. Figaro 04-05-2007, 01:18 PM Interesting. Take us through a typical day, Figs. I do have choclate if I fancy it (I had a chunky KitKat yesterday), but actually, I've never been that "into" chocolate the way a lot of other women are. I fancy it from time to time, but I don't think I've ever craved it. I've always had more of a weakness for savoury stuff. My mother-in-law is like you though. She literally HAS to have some chocolate every day. She'll eat cooking chocolate if there is noting else available. |
