...according to The Sun. (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007200654,00.html)

Shortlist includes Charlotte Church, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones (bit of a theme there) and Tony Blair:huh:

Kinda sums up the UK today really.

The cult of celebrity is everything if you're a Sun reader apparently.

The Queen, Steven Hawking and Maggie Thatcher appear to be thr only serious people on there.

The rest either appear on the Suns entertainment page alot, or are ticking the right political correctness boxes!

What a load of sh*t!

WTF is Charlotte Church doing on there ?

I think the sun has done it by how many times these people have been in their papers

WTF are any of that lot doing on the list for that matter (well, apart from Stephen Hawking, that is).

A bunch of Welsh Warblers and a couple of political leaders - both of whom led us into war - the 2nd of which did so based on lies.

Surely the "Greatest Briton", by definition, should've done some truly great things. I would think the likes of Isaac Newton, Brunel and William Shakespeare would be more appropriate.

A bit off topic, but when I first read that line, I misread "cult" as something completely different - with an "n" instead of an "l" in the word.

Ah. Well that does make it a bit tougher.....

I still don't think the Welsh singers should be up for the running though. What about Bob Geldof? Is he a "Briton"? I don't know whether he comes from Belfast or Dublin...

Dublin, so he doesn't count.

Sheesh. I'm really struggling to think of a living Briton that I think is great.

Aside from myself, that is...

Here's a few, from the top of my head, I respect for their accomplishments:

Richard Branson
Ridley Scott
Sir Steve Redgrave
Dame Judi Dench

I'm sure I can come up with others if I thought about it a while...
