View Full Version : G4 were plain and simply robbed!!!
Crystal Lights 12-12-2004, 11:49 PM Well I thought Sharons comments were way OTT and unfortunately imo cost G4 the competition.
Steve was my fave from way back but watching him on the live shows every week I grew less and less impressed with him, basically he sing the same bluesy ballads and showed he didn't have a great range in his voice at all...
I could not belive it two weeks ago when Tabby was booted ahead of him when Tabby was 100 times better than him on that show. I still dont understnad it??
During the final show i hoped Steve would pull it off, he sang the first song really well but omg the other two songs were seriously seriously bad - his crap rendition of Against all odds reminded me what a good singer Phil Collins is - his version puts Steve to shame!
I was really impressed with all of G4 s performances esp the first was amazing and my friends and I said we would deffo go see them in concert (if they won) where as boring steve.... no thanks.
anyways we were all set for a G4 vistory (after all steve was appalling) when sharon comes out with this rant from hell!! I am sorry if that cow hadn't given steve prob about a million symapathy votes - victory would have been justly G4s.
We wuz robbed!!
Sylvia in Stilettoes 13-12-2004, 12:57 AM The winner of the competition was the one who polled most votes on the night........or maybe I've got it wrong.
Lyndsay 13-12-2004, 05:44 AM G4 were boring IMO, every song sounded the same, and blondie's voice over-dominated every song. Opera is not my thing either. They signed constantly for people to vote for them, and that got right up my nose.
None of the contestents were that great IMO, and I won't be buying any of their records, or seeing them in concert, but I still think Steve should have won. He had a much nicer tone to his voice, and I really wasn't bothered if he muffed a few notes, most people who sing live do, it's what they put into their singing that makes a difference, and he was singing from the heart.
bridge 13-12-2004, 11:55 AM I too think G4 were robbed, They outsang Steve, And Sharon was only speaking her mind, good for her!

Sooooo they were robbed of a deal with Sony huh??
Had they won they would have been stuck with Simon's mob!

Oh Slipper, I thought you realised by now that not everything you read in the media..especially The Sun is gospel! The lads were on GMTV this morning and they certainly had not heard of the Sony deal!
sayangmouse 13-12-2004, 01:03 PM I have always been a Freddie Mercury fan.
Many people try to sing Freddie, all fail, until now.
Jonathon can sing Freddy, and thats saying something (and I think even Pavarotti might have looked up from his spaghetti when J was singing Nessun Dorma...pretty good)
Andrea 13-12-2004, 01:07 PM I know I'm off topic, but did you see the show last night about the making of Bohemian Rhapsody, really interesting.
Blue Alex 13-12-2004, 01:56 PM The winner of the competition was the one who polled most votes on the night........or maybe I've got it wrong.
We're actually discussing the way in which those votes were 'won' :bye:
Crystal Lights 13-12-2004, 02:07 PM The winner of the competition was the one who polled most votes on the night........or maybe I've got it wrong.
Chill my friend... as blue alex i am just questioning as to whether or not steve would have won were it not for sharons tyrade...
and as i said before i liked steve ... he was my absolute fave before the live show but unlike tabby, rowetta, G4 he didn't up his game on the live shows.. and gave the same average performances week after week (with the exception of the first two weeks) and thats what disappointed me - at the end of it all imo he was the least deserving of the final four to win and for me that is saying something as i think rowetta is a complete head wreck... but she upped her game for the lives show as did tabby and g4.
I cant see steve becoming another will young but hey maybe he'll prove me wrong!
Blue Alex 13-12-2004, 02:13 PM I was surprised at how quickly Steve lost his 'humble' act when he won.
Critique 13-12-2004, 03:12 PM I was surprised at how quickly Steve lost his 'humble' act when he won.
Explain please?
Minklemar 13-12-2004, 03:38 PM Louis is so awful (that Fred West comment was really horrible) I think he lost G4 a lot of votes.
Out of the two acts I preferred G4, but I wanted Steve to win so that Louis wouldn't be the winning judge. If I voted in such things my vote would have gone to Steve, more to stop Louis winning than because I wanted Steve to win.
Louis definately helped Steve to win.

The only "boring" thing about G4 is that their choice of name is also a Macintosh Computer. If you seriously could not hear the dramatic harmonisations of the group and the tremendous range of Johnathans voice. Then (Seriously no joke intended) I would get a hearing test. In a series pushed by time constraints it would be impossible to give every singer a lead song. But, they have only just begun and I could hear a terrific potential for other members of the group to promote themselves. They are NOT backing singers. It disappoints me you missed that. I never normally vote on these contests, but I broke my own rule and voted for G4. They have won the competition in the sense that everyone I speak to who has heard the acts cannot fathom why they got second place. Good luck to Steve, but I think that G4 will stand the test of time.
tigger 13-12-2004, 04:16 PM I do agree that G4 had a lot of talent and I think talentwise they are better than Steve. But I think that the public voted on the judges and not the performers. Which is a shame, but basically Louis and Sharon dug their own holes.

I could hear everything, thanks very much. I didn't like what I heard, and I'm entitled to my opinion as you are to yours. In my opinion they would have been better off auditioning for the programme that was looking for opera singers a year or so back. I didn't say the others were backing singers, I said that in my opinion the blonde ones voice over-dominates every song.
I don't think ANY of the contestants will have any lasting success, none of them had the X factor in my opinion. As I stated before, I wouldn't buy any of the contestants records, and neither would any of my firends or family. Disappointing lot for me.
jodie rules 14-12-2004, 10:42 AM I so think that G4 were robbed and i can't believe that Steve's single is out on Monday. How quick do they want to release a single for him? I know for a fact that i won't be buying it! Lol! So disapointed that G4 lost i threw the control for the tele across the room.
Andrea 14-12-2004, 11:35 AM Aww, so is no-one gonna buy his single so he can have the Xmas number 1:wink2:
Bella 14-12-2004, 12:46 PM Aww, so is no-one gonna buy his single so he can have the Xmas number 1:wink2:
I am surprised they are releasing the single so soon. Number 1 for Christmas it isn't going to be, not with the Band Aid single doing the rounds.
I don't buy singles, I wait for the album. However I don't think I'll be adding Steve's to my collection. I do think he has a good voice and he can sing, but he doesn't have that oomph that makes me want to buy it. There are loads of other artists just like him, I like their voices but not enough to purchase their CD's.
My local radio station were saying that the single that is No. 1 on this Sunday is classed as the Christmas NO.1 so Steve's single is released to late to be in contention!

That will be right ILS since Christmas Day is............OMG.............NEXT SATURDAY!!!! ARRRGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! :excl:
Andrea 14-12-2004, 01:37 PM Your right ils, I thought that when they said Monday for his single release I thought they meant yesterday.
Aww does that mean we won't get to see him on TOTP on Xmas day, I will be blubbing my eyes out:wink2:
Edited to say, I love your new avatar Bella.
Coastie 16-12-2004, 09:44 AM G4 were fantastic on the final show and all the romours are that they have a deal with Sony in the pipe line....the chances are that they will make it bigger than Steve and I am happy for them....but I still like Steve a fraction more and hope he does well too.
In short I am very satisfied with the outcome as my two faves from the start got through and it looks like both will have some success as recording artists.
Crystal Lights 23-08-2005, 04:59 PM Jaysus! I never realised I was such a fan of G4 back then!!!! Its so funny reading this thread - I never even bought their album after. Shows that reality tv is all about the show really - we dont really care what happens to em after!
Glad they got a contract though in the end - they seemed like nice lads!
I didn't even know all the old threads were still here!
Oh and for the record, I still hate G4 :)
Jaysus! I never realised I was such a fan of G4 back then!!!!

Fee For All 28-08-2005, 09:21 AM Steve Brookstein's post-competition single had a week at No.1; his album also went to No 1, and is currently one of the fifth lowest selling albums ever. He's just been dropped by his management and record company. He is currently seeking a new deal (on his terms according to his posts on his official site). Simon said he would never sell enough to be viable and wants to concentrate on Il Divo.
G4 have a double platinum album that also went to No 1, is one of the fastest selling albums of the year and is hovering around the 100 position 6 months after release. They have had 20 venue tour and various other summer appearances and telly, some supported by Louis' other group Voices with Soul. Another album has been confirmed for November with collaborations with Lesley Garret and Robin Gibb;another tour is planned for early next year.
Rowetta also has a record deal. She did a track for the new Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie movie and her album comes out in September - a mix of covers and her own material. She has spent the summer appearing at various festivals and on telly.
Tabby has just been 'let go' by Sharon after failing to secure a record deal. There was a documentary about his post-competition year on telly last week where he was seen opening for Rod Stewart at some gig in Ireland. He seems to have his band together again.
I can't remember who was 5th.
Northern angel 26-09-2005, 11:41 PM Hello Crystal lights,
I tried to make a quick reply earlier but as I was using a public service computer, i hadn't enough time to finish.
Nevermind, I just thought another perspective might be worthy of expressing.
G4 to my mind are not the best classical group of all time, and my own experience training in this area is well over 35 years of singing. with more than 20 years as a classical singer, and thespian. In fact the best trained singers would never dream of entering the x factor or pop idol, instead we dream of entering for a classical competition judged by Placido Domingoe or some other classical dignitries I,e Cardiff singer of the world.
In view of the fact that G4 entered a commercially orientated show they did extremely well to lose. Why, what possible logic is there in losing?
1
In losing they have released themselves in part from the rigourous contractual restraints of the controlling interests of x factor.
2
They have so far signed a contract to the value of 1.5 million pounds, not1 million which was the fund available from the x factor programme.
3
Finally G4 sales have far exceeded Steves and in the long run they will undoubtedly see 1.5 million between the four of them.Whereas Steve looks like he may be dropped from his contract as his sales have not reached the target required to draw even. Steve is in actual fact lossing the company money.
4
I presume I sound crazy, but again experience tells me that the recording industry is completely private, and losing is not neccessarily a bad thing or even being rejected , is a norm of life. This allows these wanabes to view themselves from a different perpsective and encourages the re examination of any other educational prospects people have.
Fee For All 27-09-2005, 12:11 AM Steve was in fact dropped at the end of August/early September. :)
Lola3001 29-09-2005, 06:20 PM Steve was in fact dropped at the end of August/early September. :)
...Such a shame... :shocking: ;)
Eternity 29-09-2005, 08:48 PM Steve really only won because he was Simon's and people didn't want either of the other two to win and gloat and gloat!! Sadly, he was just a pawn in the bigger game.
