Do you take any vitamins, or do you think you get the right balance within your normal daily food intake ?

I have been popping vitamins for many years now, and i do believe they work (although it could be just in my mind).

I take a multivitamin tablet, a omega fish oil tablet and glucosamine (sp) daily. I was recommended the glucosamine by my doctor as i have bad joints and 'touch wood' i havent injured my ankles / hips in a long while.

I do feel a lot better these days, and since taking the above vitamins (about 5 years now) i havent had a serious cold. In fact, i cant remember having a cold in years

I was watching tv the other day, and the doctor on there recommended that we should all take a daily vitamin C tablet as it will stop you getting colds - but if you do get one, take a tablet every 3 hrs for 2 days ... and the cold should be gone.

So now im thinking of getting vitamin C too

No, I don't take any supplements either. I did take Glucosamine for a while and it did help my gym worn knees, but it's blummin expensive, so I didn't buy any more after my last lot ran out.

I know this is advertising, so delete this if you like, but i buy all my vitamins from www.zipvit.co.uk.

They are blummin cheap, and all my family and friends use them now. The vitamins get delivered in zip up clear bags so you arent paying for all the packaging.

Have a look.

Is it not a bit dangerous buying drugs off the internet?

You dont really know what you're getting and have limited recourse if they make you ill.

When you look at the vitamins it gives you a detailed description of what they do - and warnings too if they shouldnt be mixed with other things. I personally only buy 3 vitamins, and they are miles cheaper online (i have been using them for 5 years and it is a reputable company). If stupid people want to buy 100 different vitamins then they can do that whether its in a shop ... or online.

Bonnie - IM humble O - I reckon you can get enough vitamins from your diet, and so in general I don't take any supplements.

However, if any of us are feeling pants, then the children get a tonic which I suppose is like a multi vitamin supplement. I will take extra Vit C, Cod liver Oil and, and I am already seeing probs with how to spell this but here goes: Echinnaecha [sp?].

I totally agree with you Flip - im sure you can get all your vitamins from food ... but only if you eat a sensible and balanced diet.

I dont, and as i have mentioned before regarding Mr.B's one small meal a day, im sure he doesnt either.

Although we eat fruit and veg, we dont eat enough. We dont eat much fibre and only if im not at work do i cook a meal from scratch. When i am at work we have stuff that comes boxed / packaged - like tonights scampi and chips. I also hate dairy products. I will eat a small amount of cheese, or an odd yoghurt but i have no milk in tea / coffee and detest cream etc ... We also dont eat much red meat, so are probably lacking in iron.

I think if you dont eat a full balanced diet you need a bit of help, but im sure you personally dont need that help as you and yours eat wonderfully (and boy am i jealous ;) )

I have never taken regular Vitamins but I have recently started taking an Aloe Vera Gel to help with my ulcerative proctits (mild crohns diagnosed, but I disagree).

Its in the form of a gel and I drink 60ml first thing in the morning on an empty stomache. Its really expensive, £18 every 3 -4 weeks, but my steroid prescription is was £13 a month so .......

It does seem to be slowing the effects, but will keep going for another couple of months to really see. If it helps it will be well worth the money, rather that than steriods anyday. :D

I take a multivitamin once a week, and Chromium Picolinate (as I am insulin intolerant due to polyscystic ovary syndrome) and Flaxseed Oil capsules (which are also supposed to be good for PCOS) three or four times a week (I'm supposed to take them every day but sometimes I forget). I also take a Co-Enzyme Q10 when I remember as I do genuinely feel more energetic when I take them. If I run out I find I go back to feeling grotty in the mornings again and falling asleep in the afternoon - they really do seem to make a difference!!

I have a multi-vitamin that I take on days I don't think i get the full balance of nutrients from my normal diet.

The problem with taking vitamins is that some are only effective when taken with other vitamins or nutrients.

For example, it has always been said that Vitamin C helps with colds, but recently I have read that it is only effective when you also are taking the proper amount of vitamin D (comes from exposure to the sun, or from milk for example)

This is why I try to get my vitamins from foods first, before taking a multi-vitamin...because it is usually present in the right amounts with other vitamins when taken directly from its natural food source.

1st child - bit of a suprise at speed of conception, no chance to take folic acid etc = perfect child.

Second planned child, 3 months pre conception - cut down smoking, drinking....folic acid by the bucket, other vitamins.
= child born with deformed feet

3rd child...again unplanned...no pre preparation = perfect.

No more for me anyway.

Mine was unplanned too, I did the folic acid thing as soon as I found out. I knew she'd be fine though, cos she was conceived in Florida, where I'd been on long haul flights, rollercoasters, smoked and drunk like a good 'un, helicopters, and stuffed myself with junk food, and if she could survive all that.....:D

this is the same as my first son, concieved in Florida, unplanned, and I did all the same things as you Floopy. I'd actually gone out for Xmas, concieved about a month before, and had a blazing night out.:drinking: Son also survived all I gave him.:D
