Garden Shredders

A garden shredder is a machine designed to cut and mash up all your garden waste! It takes the hard work out of cutting up all those branches, twigs, hedge trimmings.

Garden shredders reduce garden waste down to small pieces which can then be used for mulching or composting. Some domestic garden shredders can cope with branches up to 32mm thick. Be aware that some shredders can be particularly noisy, so check out the noise levels before you buy unless you want to really annoy your neighbours.

Having your own garden shredder is going to cut down on journeys to the local rubbish tip. Many councils are now collecting garden waste, but only waste that will fit into a wheelie bin. A shredder will cut your garden waste down to size so that you can either use it for mulch in your own garden or dispose of it easier.

Here I have listed some of the garden shredders available. These are electric shredders and not petrol. Petrol shredders are really aimed at industrial use, whilst the electrical ones are ideal for home, domestic gardeners.

The blades will need sharpening or replacing from time to time. Feeding them soil and stones blunts them fast. Some shredder blades are reversible, a convenient feature that reduces both downtime and costs.
