Summary of Nicks Story on 22nd May 2001

Nick's Story was presented by John Leslie of Wheel of Fortune and This Morning fame. John introduced the show by explaining the concept of Survivor. John then welcomed Nick, the first contestant to be voted off to the show.

We saw a clip of Nick, shot before he got to the island, explaining the tactics he was going to use. "I'm going to be the grey man" said Nick, "and blend into the crowd". We then saw Nick taking charge and issuing instuctions as the Survivors abandoned the boat and grabbed their belongings. As they went over the side Nick told his tribe colleagues that he was a navy diver. John Leslie then said to Nick "so from I'm the grey man to I'm a navy diver!".

Nick then was asked what he thought of the other people in his tribe.

  • Eve - very strong character.
Jackie - I was struggling in the water with her for a long time, she's a nice person.
Mike - we bonded quickly, he is someone to trust.
Pete - what a great guy, he's a tremendous resource.
Richard - I'm not sure about Richard.
Sarah - with Sarah the tribe has a lot of power behind them.
Zoe - she was a laugh from day one.

Nick is an officer in the TA and was in the Navy for ten years. Asked about the voting off he replied "I didn't see it coming so early". And to what he thought of Zoe double crossing him with regard to the alliance Nick said "I was absolutely amazed".
We then saw a clip of Eve explaining to some of the others that the netting over the roof of the shelter was her idea but Nick had claimed it as his own.

A work colleague of Nick's, who was in the audience said that Nick does say please and does say thankyou. (she was referring to Richard's comments about Nick at the Tribal Council).

Nick explained that he started to have an idea things weren't going right just before they set off for the Tribal Council. Some of his kit was missing when he went to pack his rucksack. Before the trek he felt as though things were going wrong and he felt threatened.

John Leslie asked Nick "If you can have a word in the ear of any of your tribal mates, what would you say. Nick replied "It would have to be to Zoe... you fooled me, I didn't see it coming".
