Summary of show on 24th May 2001

Day 5 on the island saw the Ulah tribe coming to terms with the departure of Nick who had taken control of the tribe so dominately. With Nick leaving, the Ulah tribe has become much more democratic and there is more of a group feeling. Richard seemed to be the one to rally the spirits of his colleagues.

On the other beach, where the Helang tribe is camped, Uzma is ill and is suffering from the effects of dehydration. She admitted that she doesn't like the water on the island and she isn't drinking enough. JJ is concerned that certain people aren't helping enough and was heard to say to Andy "ill people can still help." There is an overall feeling that the Helang tribe is unorganised and we saw Jayne and Andy talking about the situation. They both agreed that something needs to be done and that someone should take control. Jayne tried to persuade Andy to do it because of his leadership experience. Andy however doesn't seem keen to take on the role.

The contestants now faced their first Reward Challenge. It had been decided that because both tribes were lacking food the challenge would be about food and as Mark Austin said to "see how hungry they really are". The challenge saw both tribes sitting opposite each other at a large wooden table in the forest. They were then told that the challenge was to eat live grubs, which looked like large maggots, called Butar (sp?). Local tribesmen eat them to survive and they taste like mature cheese. Each contestant in turn grabbed their Butar, and ate it leaving the head behind. Nearly all of them went for the tactic of "attacking" the grub and eating it as quickly as possible and washing it down with a gulp of water. The exception to this was Andy who delibrately eat his Butar slowly with lots of "mmm"ing noises!
It was deadlock, each member of both tribes ate their Butar. The playoff involved the weakest member of each tribe going head to head to eat two Butar. The first one to swallow wins. Jackie and Uzma were picked. Uzma looked petrified. It was Jackie who managed to swallow both first, giving Ulah tribe the win. The reward for Ulah was strawberries and cream which they temptingly ate in front of Helang, licking their bowls.

Helang returned to their camp to find it had been flooded. They hadn't put their stuff away and didn't realise they would be away so long. Charlotte said "everything is washed away!". It wasn't and they seemed to recover a lot of items. We then saw JJ and Charlotte holding a fishing net. JJ starts to order Charlotte to untaggle the net. Charlotte seems to take offence and they argue. Charlotte leaves JJ working on the net and goes off for a swim!

Day 6 and Helang have repaired most of the damage to their camp. Charlotte manages to force herself to eat some rat, which was trapped during the night. Sarah from the Ulah tribe makes a mistake and accidently throws the juice from an emergency tin of pineapple pieces away.

Next is the Immunity Challenge. Each tribe was asked to nominate a member to be hidden in the forest. Jayne and Eve go off. Then they are told to construct a stretcher. They must find their colleague and bring them back on the stretcher winthin 15 mins. First tribe back to a point on the beach wins. The story is that there has been a plane crash and their colleague has parachuted and got caught in a tree somewhere. Four peope from each tribe selected, rest must stay on beach. It was a close race. Unfortunately for James he was exhausted and collapsed several times as both teams ran along the beach with their "casualty". JJ literally screamed "Get Up!!" at least twice. Both teams dropped their casualty but Ulah win the challenge.

Zoe gets bitten by a viscious looking eel whilst fishing. They catch a likely looking culprit and Zoe says "let me chop the head of this *******!".

JJ is getting annoyed about the state of the Helang camp and goes round saying "nobody knows where the f**k anything is!". We see Charlotte moaning about JJ... "she is far too bossy". James says he is undecided who to vote for and will decide on the walk to Tribal Council. Andy says he thinks JJ is a potential winner. Simon tells Andy that at least 3 of others are voting for JJ to go. Andy says Uzma is lazy and describes her as a "can you just" person.

At Tribal Council, Andy is asked whose loss will damage the tribe the most. He replies James. The votes are counted and it's a draw with both Uzma and JJ getting 4 votes each. The other six go off to discuss who should go. JJ and Uzma cuddle each other. In the tense atmosphere the votes are recounted and JJ is revealed as the one to go. She puts out her torch, turns and gives her ex- colleagues a dirty look, saying "I'd just like to say, I know exactly who voted against me". JJ then runs off into the forest obviously very upset. The mood is solemn.

JJ says "you have to have discipline in the camp, it's dirty and untidy." Simon was persuaded to change his mind. JJ tried to take control but was too overbearing and bossy for some off the younger members of Helang. As such they felt she had to go....
